I was pp'ing today's files and noticed some banding in an image ... not good!

I've seen this before: it's radio interference. Turn off your BlackBerry (they're the worst offenders), or whatever it is that is being quite "chatty" over a microwave frequency.

Except I got the banding in two separate locations some twenty k's apart ... and I don't have any of that new fangled technlogy you mentioned! 😀

It doesn't mean there isn't a source of radio interference where you were. And, actually, I do see (I think) a microwave in the background (in that photo)

Well ... if I'm going to have to scan all my potential shooting locations for these sorts of problems my photography will take on a whole new slant! 😛

Perhaps the X-100 should come with GPS coordinates for microwave and radio-interference free spots to actually take photos with the camera! Whatever the cause, the camera is defective.

That is a very good point. Yet, I'd explore that, before you keep on sending them back and then they blacklist you. So-to-speak.

If you have to clean spots and streaks on film why shouldn't you do same with purely digital images, especially if camera has film modes? Fuji just has to make patterns more random.

If you can see the banding on the LCD screen before any photo is taken, this is what I think you have written, doesn't that exclude a lot of possibilities like card, converter etc. The interference suggestion sounds interesting - can you replicate the effect outside the house? Are you carrying a mobile?

Keith, very sorry - to compensate for some of the anti-digital schadenfreude I saw above, I will point out that my M3 also needed three tries before it started working properly.

Of course it IS as old as me, so maybe that is not a totally meaningful comparison.

Even Leica don't always get it right, think of the Digilux 2 sensor issue, the M8 IR sensitivity. Why should Fuji be any different?

Sorry to hear of your problems Keith. Fuji may get a little terse with you, but they shouldn't. The sooner they identify these problems, the more satisfied users they will have latter. Point out you aren't charging them for your unbiased assessment. 😛

It's really frustrating and time-consuming to try to track down an intermittent problem. I suppose it's worth trying another SD card, but beyond that, it seems to me that the dealer should communicate on this urgently with Fujifilm.

Completely normal for underexposure on older cameras... not normal at 1600 on a Fuji X100.
