This is a follow up to at thread I posted a month or so ago. Since getting my M8 way back when, I've agonized (needlessly, I'm sure) over the right lens mix. I finally have one that I like.
So much so that I finally took the step of turning off the little feature that sent me emails whenever anyone posted an item for sale. The classifieds is no longer a place I visit. (It's really amazing what that one little step can do to cut down on GAS)

So here it is: (The only thing in jeopardy here is the M2 - If I don't use it in the next few months, I may sell it)

My favorite lens here is the 35 UC hexanon. This is a lens (the exact lens) that I sold a year ago. I think it has been in the hands of at least 3 other RFers before coming back to me earlier this month. It's been around the world, but finally it is back home.

If anyone is keeping score, the lenses are:
28/2.8 hexanon
35/2 UC hexanon
35/1.4 pre-asph summilux (my only leica glass)
50/2 Zeiss planar
50/2 Nikkor LTM
50/1.5 J3
75/1.8 CV heliar

I don't mind the repetition of the 50s, since I use them for portaits and they give me a nice mix of renderings. And frankly, the two LTMs were just too inexpensive to sell.

I'm aspiring to get to this point, but there is a big GAS bubble in the way.
I have an M8 and a bunch of great lenses, but not quite at the focal lengths I want. I'd love to use my 21mm ZM as a 21mm lens, among others (including a UC Hexanon) and I'm on the edge of getting an M9. While the M9 would be a fantastic camera I'm just wondering if it is worth the $3k that I will have to shell out after the sale of my M8.
I rationalize it as the M9 getting me back to just 4 lenses that I use on my M4 as well, while I have extras with intermediate focal lengths that I use for the M8. With decisions like that to make, life could be worse, of course!

it's a nice lens, i'd like to own one someday, but I have a feeling the prices are going to creep upwards. It does have some interesting bokeh, sometimes triangular or heart shaped, along with circles, and sometimes busy, like the lux pre-asph. great images on the m-mount flickr group for this lens, like traveling around the world with it.

Good for you. I hope to be there myself one day. At first I thought I'd limit myself to one Leica digital body and one film body. That went out the window pretty quickly as I modified it to one M film body and one Barnack. Lenses? I will never let my UC Hexanon go, even though I usually go with a Summilux for speed, and I'll never let my 50 Summicron go because it was my first Leica lens. Ah, nostalgia!

I'm really just starting to get to know the lens, but I am really liking it so far. On the M8, I just find a 75 easier to focus than a 90. I'd never claim that it equals the 75 lux that I sold. But I think it is going to do a great job filling in for it.

And from a purely aesthetic point of view, it's just a wonderfully-made lens. I'd never buy a lens just because of the way it was built or how it felt on the camera. But if I were going to, the UC Hexanon would be up for consideration.

BTW - great setup. Very similar to mine (M2+M8). I'll use the 8, then switch to the 2 and wonder how it could be better, then switch back.... Doesn't really matter as my M2 was my first Leica, has a great story, and I could never part with it.

Well, so far so good. I haven't looked at another lens since ordering the 75 from Steven. That's almost a month of no GAS impulses. Sadly, that's at least twice as long as I've gone in the past.

Of course, I'll never say never. For example, when the day comes that I buy a full frame digital M, that could result in some adjustment. But I don't see that day coming for a long, long, time.

Make that four. I regret selling it (no surprise there) but I'm glad it's "home"! It's certainly acquiring some history. I used it in Sweden, Germany, France, Latvia and Lithuania. My favorite 35mm ever.
