I use what I need to make my life easier. On the M3, original TU mod 1, Boop softie, PhotoEquip ML-Grip, and the Wasserman rewind crank.
On the M8, Boop softie, CSEP mod 4, PhotoEquip MD-Grip, Kenko Polarizer Setup, and the CV external 21mm finder.
Am I overdressed?

For my M6, I use a Softie release from Tom and a Shade from leicagoodies.com. I would like to get a Leica grip but that will come later.

My M3 occasionally has an MR meter on top, or a finder if I'm using 35mm. Does that count ? I ticked the in-between option.

I'm a bit puzzled why anyone would use a thumbs-up on an M3 though ??!

Up until just recently my M's had no add ons whatsoever.
But I did purchase two soft releases from LFI of the 'Beep' variety to try. The LFI ones have no markings versas purchasing them from Match http://matchtechnical.com/Beep.aspx (The manufacturer) where they having markings. You can get one free with an LFI subscription but then it marked LFI.
So far the jury is out on whether they are really useful but the 'Beep' concept is akin to shooting a rifle with your trigger finger which made sense to me.-Dick

My M2 and 35/1.4 VC have a lens hood and domke gripper strap always attached. I usually leave my (Zhou) case on too, if it's cold outside. I have a Tom Abrahamson softie coming in the mail. That's pretty much all I could ever need, besides maybe a bubble level. I prefer a handheld meter to the VCII.

I think the M body is a great place to start from. On my film Ms I have soft releases and rapidwinders and for me they make the cameras much more usable. Some people like to keep it simple, others add as much as they can afford. I just want my camera to fit me as well as possible...

I find the Leica grip gives a more secure hold on the camera; on my M2 I have one of these, a recent Leica strap, but my first accessorizing was installing the Quick Load Kit. The M8 has its matching Leica grip, the slower shutter, and the larger framelines.

Strap, yes, but I don't regard that as an accessory: it's in the same class as a lens hood or filters. Leicavit/RapidWinder, yes, because I like the fast wind-on. Viewfinders: well, yes, if I'm using a lens that needs one (21/18/15, or 75 on the M2). Rewind crank, maybe (I have one on the M2 with the RapidWinder). Anything else: not really. Things like half cases, grips, and soft releases add unwelcome bulk and make the camera less usable, not more, as far as I am concerned. Funny covers and paint jobs? Probably not, as I prefer to be unobtrusive, though I've long toyed with the idea of a fire-engine-red M2 for when I don't want to be unobtrusive.

Roger, I read ,recently, about a street photographer that finds if he makes a big deal of his presents on the street, he does in fact become unobtrusive/invisible. Maybe a big sign"MAN TAKING PICTURES" and a red M-2 is your best way to invisibility. Like hiding in plane sight.

A pretty lens hood is all I need.

In fact it's one of the main reasons I want a 35 summilux asph (previous version) embarrassingly. THE best looking leica lens/hood combo I reckon.

I have a viewfinder that occasionally my Leica III and that's it. I am so minimalistic on my M2 that I don't have even a lens for it 😀
