Got an email from Head Bartender about a close out sale on the now-discontinued 12mm. Tempting but how good is the lens? Seems to be less useful than the 15. Interested in comments from those who own/owned one.

That closeout is a steal. I bought one used a couple of weeks ago for that price. Seems like a good lens so far but I haven't used it much yet. Sharp lenses and looks like it is better behaved in infrared than the 15mm which is what I wanted it for. On the downside it can't take filters without adapters.
It is WIDE. This is wide open (f5.6) on a M240, handheld just to see how wide it is.

Damn, that’s wide. Does seem like a good deal, me thinks. Thought it would complement my 21 SEM better than the 15.

Yes, crazy wide. The 15 is actually quite a bit different from the 21 but where the 21 is fairly easily usable if you go much wider than that it is getting into the specialized perspective FOV and the 12 just has more of that than the 15 does. 15 is a little bit smaller, faster and it can take filters though.
