Thoughts on the Mamiya RZ67

While the initial quesion was between Mamya and some off the wall that I had never heard of. I'll throw out my Rollei f3.5 zenotar . The slowest speeds 1, 1/2, 1/4 slightly slow. My Rollei requires point it down from the subject matter for the best possible metering. Of course there's always a hand meter. The higher speeds ae right on. The you have the Mamiya II rangefinder. Metering is spot on and a nice asortment of lenes. Plus it is 6X7.

I saw on your Flickr page that you have also a Rolleiflex.

How does perform its camera and lens for doing portraits?
And is the need of longer lens the main reason for looking another (interchangable) MF?

The Rolleiflex I use is on loan from a friend, so its not a permanent fixture in my kit. I really enjoy medium format, so I decided to get an MF system of my own. Thus, the RZ67. I imagine I'll get another Rolleiflex at some point too. Its a wonderful camera.

The Rollei is wonderful for portraiture and is very portable. The lens is tack sharp and has wonderful rendering. I wanted something could focus a little closer and thats what the RZ is really good at. The addition of interchangeable lens and 6x7 format is also a plus for me.

I love both, though. You wouldn't be disappointed by either.

I agree with Rubymonkey. It is not a burden the RZ67. I have used it handheld, but find by placing it on a tripod it is easier to use with the viewfinder. Handheld with the viewfinder, with the image being reversed you tend to move in the wrong direction at first, when framing a shot. With the tripod, and a light meter hanging round you neck, you tend to take things easier, and think things out. !!!
