Canada Thoughts on the next Toronto RFF Gathering

Hi everyone

I was one of the tiny crew of hardy souls who went to the last gathering in late March at the Bedford Academy, it was a really cold one. Now if my memory serves correct we sort of collectively agreed to hold the next gathering of the tribe out in Port Credit in Gene Wilburn's part of the world. How is late June/early July for everyone? Or a suggestion of alternate venue?

I'm in .. as long as I'm back from Salvador Brazil (where I currently am.. helping to care for my mom).

I haven't had much time for shooting but I do have the hexar af with me and some film so it shouldn't be too hard to do as time permits. Just name the time and place.

Late June works for me, I think. I know that Gene's wife is scheduled for some surgery, but I don't know when that is. We'll want to make sure Gene is available.

If any interested in the Battle of Stoney Creek re-enactment, it's June 3&4.....I'm trying to find out battle times (apparently 2 battles on Sat and 1 on Sun).
Count me in for Port Credit as well....

All is as well as can be expected. SubArachnoid Hemorrhage due to a ruptured brain aneurysm is a slow slow process to even attempt recovery from. Dad and I wait each day.. she's a strong woman and she's gotten this far.. and improved from when she first got here so there's hope.

I hope your mom gets better, my mom got hit with a brain aneurysm back on Mother's Day 2001. Toronto Western Hospital's Neuroscience wing did a super job of plugging the leak and thankfully she made a full recovery in time for my brother's wedding that fall. Dave I know exactly where you are at, I have been there and its no picnic, I hope your mom makes a full recovery. PM me when you get a chance.

Ok, until Gene surfaces and Dave is back from Brazil, lets aim for late June for now and firm a up a date in a few weeks. Sounds like a plan?

Dave, my thoughts are with you!

Marion had her hip replacement operation on Wednesday (May 17) and is currently still in hospital so I'm spending most of my day there. She will likely be home by the end of next week, so I'll be good for a Port Credit get-together in June any day it's convenient for everyone else. I appreciate your suggestion of coming out this way. Marion is progressing well and would not want me to miss an RFF outing (seriously, she's one heck of a lady!)

I'm still in recovery mode from my cardiac incident, but am getting stronger all the time. Strong enough to carry my M2 with one lens attached anyway! No Nikon F3HP work for me for awhile yet -- it's just too heavy. I hope I don't prove an embarrassment to the group just because I also carry a small digital P&S in a belt pouch :D

Glad to hear Marion is doing fine and that you are strong enough to pack an M2 with Summicron. Ok, since Gene is cool with any day in June and Dave hopefully will be back towards the end of the month, how is Saturday June 24th, the Harp Pub at 1:30 PM for everyone?

That date and time are good for me. Let me suggest a slightly different venue: the Snug Harbour Restaurant, right out on the harbour, lots of free parking, outdoor seating if the weather's good, great big windows with lots of natural light if we're inside and a great view of the harbour boats and kayaks. Casual atmosphere, and the usual choice of focusing fluids, natch!

Been to both places....the Harp is more of a pub but very nice, while Snug Harbour is a pretty classy restaraunt, with plenty of great shooting of the harbour right from the outdoor patio.
I'm in for either!

Me too. Didn't mean to imply anything against The Harp -- it's my fav local pub!! (just very dark inside)

I can certainly attest to Gene's last statement abut Marion; I had the pleasure of meeting her last month and it was a really enjoyable time!

I'm in for the 24th. The Snug Harbour venue sounds a little more conducive to actual photography (amazing thought!), but I'm good for either locaiton.

June 24th sounds good for me. When you're firm on a place please post a link to the map, as usual. I've never been in both places, so they both are good for me. I trust Gene (he knows the drill and good sorts of beer), so my vote is for Snug Harbour.

....I was going to suggest meeting at the native barricades in Caledonia ON, but looks like we just missed the fun! Even more ironic; the troubles there date back to the War of 1812 and the deals made by the Crown with the Indians. We could've taken pics of the Battle of Stoney Creek re-enactment next weekend, then driven 20 miles to see it still working itself out, still unfinished after 194 years....truth stranger than fiction, eh?

Thanks for the kind words guys..
I have yet to see what's going on today.. at last check yesterday we were told that mom's got some major renal problems - cognitively she is getting better but the kidney issues aren't going to help her - she has to get better on her own and the doctors can only do so much - they've provided her diuretics to hopefully help things along but she's gotta be able to remove the nitrogenous waste from her blood.

I would hope that late June would be good.. As soon as she's stable enough though the insurance company tells us that the air ambulance folks will fly her back and re-pat her.
