Canada Thoughts on the next Toronto RFF Gathering

Jan, you left out the free music festival (City Roots) in the Distillery District on Sat and Sun! If we waited for a gap in the events, we'd never meet! LOL

For those coming tomorrow, I'll have my cell phone on in case you get stuck or need directions: 416-912-0864

Also, flickr members, I've set up a new flickr group called Port Credit Village:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/port_credit/

It will provide you another place to post your Port Credit images.

sitting here from a distance and knowing that my own city has tons of summer and festival events...i would not pass on the opportunity to vist with fellow shooters.
it is a wonderful opportunity to connect in person and not just on the net.

there are always photo ops to be had but making a connection with folks that get the rff thing is way more of a treasure.

just my opinion...

Joe, ya know I had this idea for a Montreal/Toronto RFF thing last fall. Never materialized. But you are welcome to come out and hang. There's a sofa available for a weekend. Cheers, Jan

Gene,
See you in the back of the Harp at around 1:00 for a couple of shots of beer. Is Fuji Press (800) too slow? F2.0 is fast as I've got. The packaging says it's ok for artificial light - true or just advertising? Thanks to you and Bill for the directions.

Hi Guy,

I'm going to try Fuji Superia 800 and see what I get (I've always found Fuji 800 pretty decent under artificial light). The only drawback to The Harp is its low light level. Maybe a tabletop tripod would work? Or *very* steady hands :D

See you tomorrow!

Gene

I'm going to try Fuji 1600 inside, but my 35SP only has metering to 800, so I'll have to go manual if I rate it at box speed. I do have a tabletop tripod I can bring. Outside I'll probably have APX 100 in the other 35SP, and maybe some colour in an OM.

I was thinking Fuji 1600 inside and either Acros or Maco UP25plus outside (depending on how sunny it is).

Is it a go for tomorrow then? Around 13:30?

I may be a wee bit late but should make it.

i would dearly love to show up this time or some time in the future.

i looked into the cost of coming by train a while ago but that was just sill, the price that is.
i don't trust myself to drive that long of a distanceanymore so leave my least favourite, flying...maybe i'll check out seat sales.

I had a good time today with Gene, Guy, Peter, Eduard, Earl, Dave and myself. Its been a while since I shot in Port Credit.

Two rolls (1 Delta 3200 and 1 Maco 25) from a wonderful afternoon are souped and drying on the rail.

It was another fine outing! Convivial conversation, mucho gear talk, good brew, snacks, and a bright, hot, sunny day for shooting around the Port Credit harbour and marina.

Peter is way ahead of me -- I took a roll and a half on my RFs but am not ready to develop them yet. I also brought along a digicam and have some snapshots from today's meet worked up in a flickr set:

Next time I should be strong enough to head into Toronto again!

[edit]

An anecdote from today. A boat was coming into the harbour from the lake and I was close to it, shooting and panning with my IIIf. As it came nearer I saw the man at the helm was looking at me so I gave a little wave as I was shooting. He waved back, and when he passed me shouted back:

"Is that a Leica?"

"Yes!"

"M4P??"

"IIIf!!"

He gave me a big thumbs-up.
