thoughts on using 2 x-e1's instead of x-e1 & xp1?

They talked about maybe some fixed length tele. Traditionally that would be 135f2.8, 180f2.8 and 200f4 come to mind as possibilities.

Gary

Considering the fact that they love to release direct APS-C equivalents of classical focal lengths like that it would translate into 90mm, 120mm and 135mm. I would love to have them at f/2 but would totally understand if they would choose to go more compact f/2.8 route.

Faster heavier tele prime will definitely be better balanced on a heavier and larger X-Pro1 body. X-E1 on the other hand is perfect with small primes like 27mm and 18mm. IMO both of the bodies have their strong and weak sides and getting a proper diopter for X-Pro1 will be much easier than selling it and getting another X-E1.

no one in town carries the diopters...i would have to buy a few online and then send back the ones that didn't work.
but i am likely keeping the x-pro1...silly to change things around at this time.

Joe, just a thought about the diopters... Maybe a local optometrist has some sort of diopter glass samples to lay in front of the finder window just to see what number works for you?

i had a chat with the optometrist last time i got new glasses...he had no idea what i was asking him!
i tried some reading glasses at safeway and i think i need a plus 2 so that's where i would start anyway.

I wear glasses with a progressive lens design. Apparently how I hold my head when I look through a viewfinder places my glasses lens at the wrong height to see infinity clearly. So I bought one of Nikon's round diopter lenses (+1)... instant clarity! Bonus... the Nikon diopter lenses have the nice rubber 'bumper' around them to keep glasses from being scratched.

how much did your diopter cost you?

online with shipping they are about 40-45 bucks...if i could buy one locally it would be more like 29 bucks...i could have the local shop special order one for me and not have to pay shipping but the wait is like 2 months.

SubTotal: $14.95
Customs Clearance : $12.48
Shipping: $8.80
Order Total: $36.23

funny that i balk at higher prices for smaller items...

Am I the only one who thinks the X-Pro1 is still Fuji's best camera?

Not by a long shot.

I'm using the x100s more than the xp1 lately but most of the reason is that it's easy to fit in my jacket or pants pocket.

The xp1 still feels like a camera should feel - sensors are all the same now, so that isn't even a factor...just "feel" and the xp1 has "it"

d.i. is sending me a +1...if that works then my problem is solved...if i need something stronger than i know to try a +2.

i just read a review about the x-m1 and the new plastic 16-50 lens...it was a rave and the pics were pretty damn good!
that lens is a real sleeper!

Exactly. Now that I have the 27mm, I'm wondering if the X-E1 is the better fit for me vs. the X100s... I like the back buttons of the X-Pro1 better than the X100s. The X-E1 is similar to the X-Pro1 is that respect.

you got the 27!? great news...what do you think?

the x100s or the x-e1? i bet many will asking that question soon. they are the same size, pretty much and the x-e1 can be a better back up to the x-pro1 as it takes all the lenses.
my biggest regret so far is that i have lost the love for the 35!

I like the 27mm, but that is crazy talk... ;) that 35mm is one of my favorite lenses ever. I see me using both extensively. I haven't used the 27mm enough to make a true comment about it... but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

That's going to be the big choice!

Xe1 seems obvious, but x100s still has a lot to like. Totally silent shutter, flash sync at 1/2000, still a bit smaller. It's a terrific street carry around...

Don't have thee 27 yet, so I won't make up my mind for a while...oh yeah, for now,the x100s focuses a lot faster ....

Joe, in my lowly opinion you should keep the x-e1/x-pro1 combination kit. The X-Pro1's hybrid viewfinder is just too valuable to give up. It gives you an option you can't have with the x-e1... the optical viewfinder. This finder is the only way you're going to be able to hold onto some semblance of the rangefinder experience.

Joe, this is what would happen if you would sell your XP1:

- You'll be glad to have two identical bodies
- Then, you'll miss the rangefinder experience
- RFF will inspire you
- You will get the urge to buy yet another Leica
- You will be bankrupt.

Don't go there, Joe, just don't - keep the X-Pro, it's a wonderful camera :)

i know it's crazy talk!
but i have no need for a 50mm pov when i have a 40mm pov...
just because it's fast and oh so sharp doesn't make it needed.
but the 1.4 might be handy in the dead of winter around here when it seems there is only a few hours of daylight.

i had not put it together like that...but you're dead right!
changing now could ruin my life!!
