Threads bloated by oversize pictures

How about a scheme similar to that used on Photo.net? Pictures up to a certain size, e.g. 600 pixels wide, are displayed directly within the thread. Larger files require clicking a link to display the photo on a separate screen. Would that work here?

Sigh. Alright. I'll post a link as an example. The site is the largest online Simpsons community. I'm sort of grandfathered into the community - I've been there since the beginning, even though I don't watch the show any more and have no desire to (unless it's an early episode). But it shows what it does for people's photos (all with different hosts).

I met the woman I'm going to marry on that message board. I feel like a colossal nerd now.

Well, of course, one can right-click on the picture; click "save as" and then resize it in photoshop. I wonder if there is a way to program the website to do this automatically.

Yes, I can't believe the number of idiots who post photos that are 1,200 pixels wide and occasionally wider. Aside from the amount of time to download six photos of that size, then it makes the thread impossible to read.

It's mind boggling that there isn't some sort of program you could download to resize the photos to fit your screen. I hate scrolling back and forth too, but I also like seeing a great shot at it's highest resolution. The problem comes from the fact that I have a 19" screen and my wife has a 17", so we're already at odds here. It seems to me that if the photos have to be resized to fit the smaller screens then people w/ what I consider to be normal size screens (19" and up) only see comparatively small photos. How about it geeks? Isn't there a way to have the computer sense that the image is too big for it's monitor and automatically downsize it to fit? Might be a nice profit to be made to the person that comes up w/ such a dealie. There's certainly a market.

I like to see pictures that fill my screen. But I don't like having to rock the picture back and forth

I gave up that battle a long time ago. It's a question of manners and knowledge of other users' basic browsing and monitor capabilities. Usually their response (those who embed huge photos) is "I see it just fine". :bang::bang::bang:
