And what about the greatest architect of the Ottaman times? Students of who designed the Sultan Ahmet Mosque.
For that we have to travel away from Istanbul. Few do. But travel to Edirne,
to view the greatest architectural masterpiece of Koca Mimar Sinan.

Time to leave Istanbul. The Eastern flank of the Byzantine Empire and the richest and most important city of the Middle ages, Constantinople.

Hi there again!
Sort of sorted got my backups running. I am working off a mac air, so things are a little blurry for my eyesight.
On to the Silk Trail. It weaves it way across Turkey and into Asia on the East. While we could not complete the eastern part of our trip, here are some images from where we went.
Turkey has always been at the crossroads of civilization. Different cultures,
different religions have left their mark on this land. Moving from north to south or west to east the various influences are amazing.
But what would a Silk Route be without silk?
The images are a combination from various cams. The M8, an old Kodak P&S, a old Canon P&S, and from one of the iTablets, we brought along.
Not forgetting our workhorse, the D-Lux4.

Along the Silk Route one still finds caravan ' Sarayais '. Old time lodgings built by the town folk to lodge visiting caravans. This was generally free. Caravans meant business!! Some of these lodgings are now deluxe hotels.
While a few are reminders of times past..

That looks like Sirince, one of my most favorite spots in Western Anatolia. Good wine, good food and nice cool (or relatively cooler) weather in summer!

Hi there..
Indeed it is Sirince. We were heading down from the North from Amasara to Safronbolu to Cappadocia and the west. That would be another hundred pics!!
We chose to avoid Kusadasi and went up to Sirince. Much more to our liking
than the tourists and cruise ships there.
Thanks for looking in.
