I think my opinion will be in some dissonance:
What is wanted to show:
- color
- dynamic
What we can see:
1) color - yellow is a very active color, this is creater of a visual attantion. as a rule, it's a color for main object. In this picture yellow - 40% of background and as a result this background will keep our attanion. but main object - byclist, cannot keep my look.
2) dynamic - here is happend absolutely static picture, central composition and small increasing angle of broadwalk from left to right killed a dynamic. but main killer of a dynamic - it's a central post and shadow from it, the post play role of a stopper for a way of eye look.

Color as a visual point of attantion.

I got 40 rolls of expired Fuji Superai 400 on ebay, their only 12exp each but they only cost me $4 total 😀. I went to SF to pick them up and shot a roll to see how they turned out.

Todd-- I like the shot of the woman, with her face lit. Great shot. And was it from the hip? Bingley the Cat and I want to know.

Bill P-- Your Seville shots are intriguing. A target rich environment indeed. I disagree with shg005 about your shots. I like the first one, with the vendor ironically scowling at you among all her treats. I also like the one with the well-dressed kids walking beside, what appears to be a klansman (at least to an American like me). And then the black-hooded figures also. Very spooky. I suppose this is some sort of Catholic ritual associated with Easter? Quirky. I like it.

Todd.Hanz : first photo: what is your intention with this photo? what makes this unique or special enough to look at it twice? i'm not seeing it. maybe if the arrangement of the elements was composed differently...

I thought about this all week, and it's a good question. I think I took it 3-4 years ago, not sure, but I don't remember the circumstances. I have several similar shots, slight blur, legs-hands-brief cases-etc. I think it probably shows my city pretty well, the hustle of "Corporate America" and all. Is it worth looking at twice, don't know, I like it and it works for me. Thanks for commenting and making me think.

First a all - I have read a couple thread about weekly Street pictures. A what I think, what are my questions:
1) What is key word for posting photos into the thread - "constructive comments" it means real discussion of pictures or something else?
2) Do we ready to accept all comments positive and negative, or we are wainting "flow of honey" only.
3) Do we have our own critery why this particular picture good or not so good?
4) Can we use some kind of formal approach for disscuss pictures?
and so on...
Second - some means about criteres of analizing pictures, whitch I try to implement to myself.
I ask myself a couple of questions an then make a decision about my comment. There is some of questions:
-- Can this picture publish in photo magazines?
* as a selfdescribing picture
* as a part of series
-- Can this picture publish in big photo albums?
* as a selfdescribing picture
* as a part of series
-- Do this picture ready for the exchibition?
-- What is a level of this exchibition?
-- What exactly will say build-editor (for examle BW magazine) about this picture?
it's not full list...
or:
This picture can be dysplaing on RRF only? and it's life outside of the virtual reality will be not so beatuful?

not sure where your from but English doesn't seem to be your native language so I'm not sure I understand a few of the questions, but here goes...

Yes, constructive comments are welcome, good or bad. On any of my pictures please blast away, if I agree with you or learn something from you then great, if not then oh well. I like to hear others honest opinions. I typically softball most of my comments because I don't kow the psyche of alot of members here. Instead of making enemies I try and find something I like about the pic and leave that comment.

As far as a formal approach for discussion, I would love to have a set of guidelines to do this, any idea where to find such a list?

As far as your personal guidelines for posting an image, they seems to work well for you. I looked at your gallery and see alot of strong street work, some well thought out and some not so much. I think posting an image based on whether it's ready for exhibition or publishing in a magazine is a good idea but most folks here are amatuer at best and are showing their good stuff already.

An idea would be to start a "no holds barred" critique thread (we had a critique thread for a while but it was a pretty friendly affair as well) where you made honest comments both good and bad. Saying that in the rules would let any poster know what they were in for when posting an image, an honest evaluation of the image.

Thanks for the comment. I was actually hesitant to post that one because I thought the lady hailing the cab was a little cliche for a street photo but the light and shadow worked for me.

Wondering if anyone else finds themselves looking at their own street photos and editing out ones where you feel like, the world doesn't need another photo of someone hailing a cab. It's one of those motions that captures your eye but we've also seen a million of them. I tend to edit them out myself unless there's something else, in this one the light and shadow, which makes it worthy of keeping.

Gene, Todd, this is a worthy discussion. I have been actively pursuing "street" photography for less than two years, and still feel I have a lot to learn. That is why you will find me posting more images than comments. I try to edit rigorously, and drop the less interesting and repetitive images. I am happy to hear any comment on my work, good or bad, because that is how I will learn.

One thing that I *have* learned from participating in these threads is that what works for one, does not necessarily work for another. That said, I like Gene's questions he asks himself - it codifies quite neatly the thought process I go through:

1. Is the image interesting/different? - does it pass the "ho-hum" test?
2. Does it stand alone, or does it need explanation?
3. If a sequence, is there a natural progression - do the images tell a story?

Technical "perfection" is not my goal with these shots - I'm not shooting a landscape with slow film and my camera mounted on a tripod. I'm striving for impact, and the "second look".

Hope this makes sense. These are the most useful threads here, IMO.

=Instead of making enemies= As you, I also ready to get any opinions good or bad, not matter. I can agree or disagree but it will be later, it's =second step=, because =first step= Are you open for discussion? Maybe somebody else ready to do the same.
I have thoughts about forums like RRF or Pbase and many others.
The forums have two sides:
- first - it's a place of general discussion, opinions =in common= without touching yours personality
- second - there are big social games that will be touching yours personality, like yours pictures and comments.
And:
You can understand or not understand that this is just a game, nothing more.
You can understand or not understand rules of the game
You can accept or not accept for yourself all or some of rules of this game.
What is yours goals of the game.

For me very important real feedback, with a critique, not only with =honey=. I have published I in prepare of an excibition and I still just amatuer photographer. (my profession - math). And here is a point for describe why I have write about magazines, albums and so on.
Street photography cannot be a money maker job in present time, and real professional photographers went out from Street. It means that without amatuers this sort of photography will died, it's a reason why we and only we have to think about publishing, about quality and so on.
