I do not work for any brands I praised or criticized in here, or single out LLL or other Chinese Shanzhai manufacturers. I just express my personal opinions and hopes for Chinese manufacturers will get better not just copy others. I do not like copy, I like innovation, I do not like fake stuff, if I can not afford real one, I do not just buy fake to satisfied my ego.

I have a Skyllaney Bertele Sonnar 5cm f/2.0 lens. It is pretty much a copy of the 1934 CZJ 5cm f/2.0 Sonnar. It has some improvements that make it very nice. It eliminates glitches in the original and delivers a nice image. Is this a junk copy?

As a certified fanboy, there’s just now way I’ll be spending hours in the darkroom working on negatives shot on leica copies while my genuine Leicas get no use… like, what kind of Clown would that make me…

I have never been jealous of people that restrict themselves to only leica products, I feel sad for them. Purposely choosing to ignore the myriad varieties of lenses and the unique way that they render images is really just short-sighted in my opinion. One of my favorite lenses for portraits is the voigtlander Nokton for the Prominent camera. But It must be a piece of junk because Leitz did not make it. Zoltan the dog, wide open on Sony a7III

In your case the lens is not a junk, it is homage to a milestone, excellent optical design, just like these excellent Japanese Tessar copies like Minolta 75mm f3.5 on autocord.

Zoltan was a great dog. Voigtlander Nokton 50/1.5 on Sony a7III. Getting back to the original idea of the thread, I think that it is pretty cool that Chinese companies as Thypoch and LLL are producing lenses. You don't have to like all of their products to appreciate what they are doing. I would never buy a $22,000 Taylor & Hobson Speed Panchro from eBay, but was very pleased with the $800 LLL SPII.

OK. What are your rules defining junk and other? BTW, I have a '57 KMZ Jupiter 8 which is also a copy of the CZJ 5cm f/2.0. It is an excellent lens. It cost $100.

I agree with boojum, the early Jupiters, especially the KMZ versions, are usually really good lenses unless they have been molested by unskilled individuals in the past. boojum, I really like this image

Admittedly, I occasionally have irrational emotional thoughts regarding Leica products. A used Panasonic S1 would be more practical for me than a used SL2S for many reasons, and cost a quarter the price, but I am drawn to the Leica more because... Leica?
As for Thypoch - again, I am very intrigued by their lenses, particularly the 28mm. The results from early reviewers seem to be appealing, so I will see if I can try one somewhere.

do not know what happened to vivitar brand, these made in China vivitar lens and filter are clearly con artists junk, labeled as MC, but from my naked eye, there is no coating at all, may have plastic elements too.
