time for a bag thread!!

I have to admit being slightly bemused by this thread. I have never bought a 'camera bag', because I tend always to find things I don't like about them. Usually the look, and often too much velcro.
My strategy has always been to just get a bag I like, currently a couple of Manhattan portage book bags in two sizes, and then buy loose padded inserts from tenba or domke. This way I can precisely choose the insert to suit my gear, and as I usually have some space left at one end of the bag, I use that for things like extra film, a lightmeter, a notebook. If I am just out shooting, I use the small bag, and if I have other things I need to carry, like a book, a laptop, or a video camera, I can just move the inserts with the gear in it to the larger bag. Sometimes (shock horror) I go somewhere without a camera, and I use the same bags, without the inserts.
It gives me a lot of flexibility in use, but it also means I can buy any bag I like, not just 'camera bags'. I also find it more 'stealth' than a black camera bag, as most people would not expect that I have a camera on me.

Besides the inserts I also use op-tech neoprene hood covers ( I suppose they are designed for slipping over slr lens hoods). The smallest size is perfect for protecting RF-lenses. I tend to stack a couple of lenses with hood cover into a padded insert, but also sometime loose in the bag.

CNNY. I think that's why there's a pleothora of bags out there. Every man (or woman) has their own idea as to what serves their taste and purpose best. I can't do with just one bag. I have two regular bags (as mentioned before) and, use my commuter bag to and from work (a trendy Billabong satchel) containing a Think Tank lens bag large enough to hold my R-D1 with one of the smaller lenses and and battery spares.

Be interested to hear how you like the bag compared to the 803. Debating between these two. Was going to pick up an 803 at B & H soon but am intrigued by the BBB Stealth.

Wondering if it stays open when you go to pull he camera out or sorta flops over making it difficult to easily grab and drop the camera in and out.

Bare bones stealth 2

Bare bones stealth 2

BBB-S2 arrived last week and I like it a lot 😀

It currently holds my m8 w lens, Nikon Sb-20 small flash, 75mm summarit, 35 cron v4 and 21mm Elmarit (w finder of course), 8 SDHC (sandisk IIIs/4gb) in small case, cleaning kit, small flash light, and two note size writing pads, plus pen and with a little rearranging, it will easily hold another lens. I will be ordering a shoulder pad for it, as I can be out all day and at my age need all the padding for my shoulders I can get. Oh and there is room for plane tickets and passport if needed in the back slot. Very, very pleased with such an efficient, light yet discreet bag. And I like the handle design, small and completely out of the way until you need it.

I hope after a couple days we will get Joe's thumbs up. My BBB travels with me every day at this point, one body with 1 or 2 lenses and my stuff. I like it a lot. I may get a BBB2 also for those days I want two bodies.

everyone should have at least one of these!.....yes I know it's a silly mascot for a man's bag, but an eight year old grand daughter bought - and insists I keep it for luck! 😀

My BBB micro is the everyday bag, I carry an M2 with a 50mm and a 35mm, a lightmeter and some film rolls, when I use the original BBB I can add an Olympus XA or a Bessa L with 15mm and even another lens for the M... very happy with both of them

Dave, there's nothing wrong with carrying around a mascot. The ladies love it! I about always have my toy monkey with me, but she usually rides on my shoulder, not in the bag.

If I'm "travelling light" I stick an extra roll in my pocket and the Weston Master V in a belt pouch. Otherwise I have the original (somewhat threadbare) Leica bag packed with too much stuff that is rarely used.

it is a comfortable bag, i carried it this morning holding my rd1 with 15 attached, also the 28 and 50, finder for the 15, 3 extra batteries and 2 extra sd cards plus business cards. it all fits comfortably and i am still amazed at the smallness of the bag.
it also seems well put together and i envision a long life for it.

I've been using an 803 for seven years, and am probably getting a standard-size Stealth as an adjunct to it, rather than a replacement. I'd been going to get the Micro, but it appears the standard-size bag is different enough in size (read: smaller) from the 803 to work as an alternate bag, and the Stealth version pretty much does it for me with its Velcro-less design.

Dude. I got a Domke F-1x for my birthday a week ago, and I am in love. This bag is the second most awesome thing I've ever had around my body, and it's so incredibly well made! It has loads of space in it, but if you take out the inserts, it gets really compact. I also love all the pockets around the main compartment, and the fact that I can even put my light tripod under that big flap and have it secured. Seriously, this bag is extremely awesome.

Hmmm, sounds like you may be keeping your new BBB stealth bag. Glad to hear you like it. Of course, do let me know if you decide otherwise so we can trade as previously discussed. Otherwise, my a&a clone will be listed here for sale soon.

This could work for me-Domke J-3

This could work for me-Domke J-3

The antithesis of the BBB, The Domke J-3 could be what I'm looking for. A bag for multiple formats.

  • Main Compartment, J3 bag

A Leica and 1 or 2 lenses in each padded end pocket. The Hasselblad or Pentax 6x7 in the middle. Meter, filters, film, etc. in the front & top pockets. This could work.
