Time to go through the entire RFF Gallery again

My views were not a reaction to the number of comments, but to the number of actual viewings in relation to the number of members we are supposed to have.
Personally I only tend to comment on the composition and impact of a picture. I am very reluctant to comment on colour balance, contrast or sharpness, this is as a result of viewing my own pictures on other peoples monitors and being surprised/shocked by the difference in the apearance of the same picture between various VDUs, particularly laptops. My own monitor is calibrated to give, as far as is possible, the same result as my printer, as I print out what I consider my worthwhile pictures.
I have been involved as a judge in photo-club competitions for many years, but there we are viewing the actual prints/slides. Most judges I have met refuse to judge pictures shown by way of a digital projector.🙄

I must say all this gallery-talk and gallery-threads have really encouraged me to go through the photos there much more in these past two-three days than what I'd normally do.

There are a LOT of a very talented photographers amongst us.

Memphis , I look and usually comment as you know. I just cant comment one each shot , my typing is painfully slow. Glaciers come and go while I type a paragraph.

John , I"m still strolling thru and making notes, I'll be back on this when I've got enough. I'll let you know when I get to members whose initials start with an R ;- )

My challenge to the gallery fans is to find an image which has not been commented on and make the first comment ---- the fault with the gallery is that you don't get notifications when comments have been posted on your photos ---- so, if joe or jorge can remedy that.... we'll see much more traffic there

I agree - that feature would be excellent.
But do keep in mind that RFF runs a bulletin board software from vbulletin and if that feature is not already in the software it would be hard to accomplish this.

it's already in the software --- or in the vbulletin hacks --- it's a few lines of php code to accomplish this

Sweet and yes, in that case I would LOVE that feature as it could really make the gallery more useful (I must admit I hardly post there myself due to this feature not being there).

Oh Joooorggeeeeeee....? 🙂

Jan's comments (and pictorial studies of lonely city scenes) have made me spend much more time in the gallery....I was always constrained from posting by the quality I saw there. His kind and encouraging comments have emboldened me to study the shots I like more, ask why, and try to improve my own ....a long curve indeed, but it wouldn't have happened otherwise.
You can pay money for photo courses but you'll learn much more here thanks to members like Jan....and there are many more like him on this forum that will take a newbie from buying their 1st RF to souping their own films within a year.
You guys know who you are and deserve thanks from the members who lean on you for advice.
