Time to leave

I spent close to 18months reading posts here and on photo.net and the contax G pages and decided to go headlong into rangefinder photography because of this site's attitude - mostly informative and friendly, useful tips without much in the way of personal attacks. Photo.net has some reasonable forums but the leica forum sees to be comprised mainly of pedantic types who's blood pressure rises whenever 'bokeh' is mentioned. For me - who cares - I just like taking pictures and seeing other people's work and getting advice.

When Bill Mattocks left I was disappointed but I'm glad he's back 'Tri-X and a Guiness. It's the end of the world baby." was the coolest quote in a long time.

Tony - your posts have also been great. Generally I don't post much because I'm new to the game, I prefer to just read the posts. Doesn't mean I'm ignoring anybody.

Did I say that? The things that come out of my mouth when I'm half in the bag. They're going to drop a net on me one fine day, just you watch and see.

Happy to entertain, in any case.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

That IS a cool quote. Would make a cool RFF t-shirt 😉

I am also relatively new to this site. This thread should be listed on this site for all to see. The fact that people here encourage Tony to stay has made me a believer of this site. I see posts from the same people regularly, like FrankS with the cool pic of an older man, and they seem like people you can invite home to talk about how to be a better photographer with RF cameras. I don't know much about taking good photo's (yet) but after looking at Tony's site I see why people here are encouraging him to stay. Until I can generate good photo's, I encourage the seasoned veterans to stick around so I can learn more. Heck, I just got a 50mm 1.8 lens for my Canon 7 and I am gonna need some help. Thanks to those of you here who make this site friendly to those of us who are on the learning curve. I'll have to start posting pic's to get some input.

TPPhotog ~ your contributions will be missed.

RFF has been a great source of info and encouragement for me. I appreciate the knowledgeable members who offer their friendly help, advice and suggestions. And thankfully, I'm ignored often, since I have little real knowledge of RFology. The fact that I'm ignored is how I know that this forum is worth hanging out in. If Groucho were here, he might say, "I wouldn't want to be a member of any forum who actually listened to dullards like me."

BTW FWIW ~ Lots of good laughs here too... I'm always thankful for that ~ brightens the day. "Hey, if I wanted to go out of my way to be ignored I'd have got married." Now that's funny!! Getting married is NOT the way for a man to be ignored. There are days that I BEG my wife to put me on her Ignore List!!

I honestly believe now that this gang never actually runs film through cameras--they sit and pontificate, living vicariously through this stupid electronic window. Another good one! But partly true. Taking pictures is such a pain... all that focusing and stuff. But I'm not a vicarious vicar. I get paid to pontificate!

Now... let's post on the thread "Top Ten Reasons This Forum Rocks" and let the naysayers naysay. Amen Francisco!!

TPphotog, don't leave. This is a great site with good and fair moderating. Let us know you changed your mind.

Sincerely,
Frank G

Maybe if each of us got out to a *real* pub more often,
some of what is said here might "roll off" a little easier...

"Excelsior, you fathead!"

The posters who have little interest in the freindly and constructive nature of this forum have once again driven away a fine contributor. Posters who's only wish is to stir things up with silly agressive posts just to irritate should go on there way and leave this forum to those who have a genuine interest in RFs and photography. They do know who they are.

I think the reason that these type polute sites is that when they go into a pub, everyone finds someone else to talk too. the best way to deal with them is not to "rise to the bait" that way they wither and hopefully die!!!
