Time to sell but which to keep

Oh my.
Sell everything except the X100s, dear. You won't regret it. My wonderful husband lugs around two D3s but until last year sometime. He is now "all-Fuji, all-time!" But he works less journalism than I am. I still use one big Nikon - the D3 and a Fuji X100s. Some days I don't even raise the Nikon!

If you have fewer cameras you spend more time seeing, maybe?

M2 or M3: best shooting experience ever. M2 if you like 35mm. M3 if you like 50/90mm. personally I'd keep both.
Nikon F: for ultra-critical composition (architecture, macro, etc). I'll always take a pro nikon (F) over a consumer (FE).
500CM: the lenses.
A7ii: the versatility.

If it was me, I would keep the following

1. 35mm Rangefinders: Leica MP
2. 35mm SLR: Nikon F
3. Medium format: Hasselblad 500 cm
3. Digital: Fuji X100s

But I am a little biased as my main cameras are...

1. 35mm Rangefinders: Leica MP
2. 35mm SLR: Nikon F3P
3. Medium format: Mamiya RB67
3. Digital: Fuji X100t

Xpan, whatever of the Nikons, the 500cm if you like square else the 645e, get rid of the digitals and replace by a good scanner and film.

My packing has now finished.

I have kept the following:

Leica M2
Leica IIIa
Nikon FE
Hasselblad 500cm
Rolleiflex 3.5f
Sony A7ii

My reasons:

1. The M2 is the epitome of Leica rangefinders, so if I'm keeping one example this is it.
2. The IIIa is such a jewel, I cannot resist it.
3. I bought this FE when I was 16 back in 1982 with money inherited from my grandparents, so it's too sentimentally important to let go and it's been the companion to my life. Besides, it provides the AE that the M2 doesn't.
3. I really couldn't decide between the Rolleiflex and the Hasselblad. I'll decide later.
4. The Sony can take many of my lenses so is the most versatile. I liked mfogiel's comment as that was the reason for disposal, on a recent trip to central Spain I took my iPhone and X100s and hardly used the Fuji.

As to the person who said such a choice would send them mad, well that's why I'm selling: it became too difficult to decide which camera to use.

Now to thin out the lenses...

Tough Decisions, but here is my take

M3 ~ since I'm really a 50 shooter
Nikon FE ~ everyone needs a Nikon
Hasselblad 500cm ~ cause I always wanted to try One
M8~ not cause its so Perfect, far from, nor am I being sensible but Beautiful B&W files, so easy to use, the first Leica digitall M

Leica MP, Nikon F, Rolleiflex 3.5 planar v4, and M8 would be my choice. The Leica MP & M8 can share lens and avoid having to support another system if keeping the Sony or Fuji.

I had second thoughts on the M8: I've asked for it to be returned rather than be put up for sale.

Those beautiful black and white images it produces came back to me in a wakeful moment in the middle of the night and I knew I had to change my mind.

Saves me from the temptation of splashing out on a Monochrome too - never quite saw the point of one if you have an M8.

I'd keep the MP and the Rolleiflex and sell everything else.

Then I'd probably buy an X-Pro2 with 35 and 18mm lenses.

(But I need to save some money for a small cabriolet.)

If you are a resident of a certain Fircombe surely the only equipment to keep is that which carries a double entendre or strong innuendo?

Carry on snapping with Leitz close focus devices etc etc

I've been wanting a Xpan for a long long time now. So if you decide to let it go, I would promise to give it a good home. Specially if we can manage a payment plan or a trade into photographic print(s) 🙂

But for your original question. I would personally go with Xpan (if you like panoramic), Nikon F (for everything else) and not keep a digital at all. Or purchase a new digital (personally I would either go with compact to supplement film cameras or a Nikon dslr to use Nikon F:s lenses) But it's me, not you. It's up to you as you know it 🙂

Glad you figured it out, Austerby. I would have probably come up with a different mix, but you're right about the Leica stuff.

A few years ago I had to sell almost all of my gear. I kept three cameras: the Nikon N90s outfit because it was the newest thing I had, and would cost too much to replace; the Yashica Electro 35 GTN because it was a rangefinder, and also a sentimental favorite; and my Dad's Argus CC, for obvious reasons.

Everything else, 16mm to 4x5, went to the auction house. Took three small pick-up loads to get it there (I still had some gear left over from when I had a studio).

Thing is, I've rebuilt the collection over the years, minus anything to do with 16mm. Took me a while to figure out what systems I wanted to keep, but I got a good start on getting it ready for the consignment shop. Hope you get decent money for your stuff, as selling at auction, you've probably figured out, is not a good idea.
