Right now, I'm fortunate enough to have funds enough for a small purchase. Only, I have two items in mind. I can purchase one now, but the other will have to wait.

One: Kenko 2X TC for Nikon AF.

I'm having my AF 80-200 f2.8 lens cured of a bad case of sticky blades. This TC will double its focal length, and then I'll be able to sell the Tamron AF 200-400 I have.

Two: Nikon Capture NX 2.

Even though my copy of PSE can open RAW files, and that I also have Nikon View to do this, it seems that only Capture can do some of the on-camera effects I like, and also turn 14-bit NEF files into decent JPEGs, in addition to being a very decent image-editing program.

So... which would you buy first?

I'm leaning some times towards the software, and then, later, towards the TC. Since I don't want to toss a coin, I'm asking for some help from clearer minds. Thanks in advance for your patience!

I'm guessing that the "easy" solution; selling the Tamron and using those proceeds to fund the software or teleconverter isn't feasible so then I would consider which you will use/need more the teleconverter or the software. My thinking is that since you do currently have the focal lengths covered with the two lenses and that the new software will work better than what you have now, the better choice is the software first then the converter.

Thanks, Rob! I'm lucky in that I don't need to sell the other lens yet, as I have the funds for just ONE purchase... But I guess I'll do as you recommend. Sounds better. Thanks! :)
