I know this was discussed before but I can't seem to find any of the threads. I was wondering what the best way to protect glasses against metal M eyepieces is (got an M4-2 recently). I know someone found a piece of plastic at a hardware store that fits perfectly, so I was wondering if someone could give me the name for that. Or any other solutions. I don't like the sticky pieces of foam because they fall off very easily. Currently I wrapped a piece of electrical tape around the finder, and it works pretty well, but it falls off easily and can get messy. Share any remedies that you know! Thanks,

Maybe rubber cement a rubber grommit to the eyepiece?

I got an eyepiece cover from aki-ashi, just peel and stick (actually, there was a member here who had several left over and handed them out as charity, he mailed me one for free). *shrug*

The Aki ones adhere pretty well. If you check his website, he may have other things you need, and his shipping is very reasonable. I'd recommend the clear top and bottom covers for the M.
Note on gaffer tape. This is not the same as the cheap duct tape you find in the discount stores. Gaffer tape normally releases without any residue. It's used in the Hollywood studios by the gaffers (electricians), for securing wiring, etc. Top quality, and not cheap, but a little goes a long way.

I made my own using Jon Goodman material. A subway token was used for the outer circle and the barrel of a pen light flash light was used for the inner circle.

Get a rubber water seal from most common bathroom faucets that look like a top hat. Cut out the interior. Fits perfectly. Also. the used ones can be had free from plumbers and work just as well.
Just a suggestion.. BTW, looks good also!

DAG has viewfinder-eyeglass protectors for sale on his site. I bought a couple from him. They snap on and work wonderfully. I have a very nice set of scratches on one of my eyeglass lenses from shooting with my M4s.

Yeah, to see the 35mm lines on my the M4-2 I really need to push my eye up the to viewfinder (I need an MP with .58 viewfinder, but thats a different issue). Gladly, besides the helpful suggestions all of you offered, I have invented another solution! I took the black foam piece that is used on earbuds that came with my ipod and put one around the viewfinder, then cut out the middle. It works wonderfully! I will post pictures when I get the chance.

Another vote for the rings from DAG. I've tried all the DIY remedies, but none were really successful. I thought the DAG rings were a bit expensive at US$15 each plus postage, but they work perfectly! No more scratches! I've got them on both the M4 and M5 now. It's made a real difference for me - no more reluctance to use the cameras for fear of scratching expensive glasses.
