A few weeks ago I purchased a Yashica 635 from an estate sale off of ebay. It was a risk to say the least, as the seller knew virtually nothing about cameras. But it was worth it!!!!! The camera came in as mint conditon and worked flawlessly.
to the beginning of the sad: a couple of weeks ago i took it hiking with me, took some excellent shots, and then proceded to drop it. (the leather casing is held on by two inserts and those came out, then the camera fell out of the case.)
Seeing no cosmetic damage, I decided that I would give it a shot again today to see if everything was functional. It seemed sound, focus was dead on, winding fine, etc. and then I did it again! knocked it off of the edge of a picnic table!!!
well this time, there was definately aesthetic damage, as well as functional damage. The back of the camera is dented (where it flips up,) but should be repairable, and the hood that protects the ground glass is also damaged, making the opening and closing a little bit harder.
Of course, none of this will upset me, so long as the functionality of the camera still holds up well, as i think the aesthetic damage adds a little bit of character (character of my own, to boot!!!) to the camera.
Im souping the roll of film that I shot after the damage as we speak, so I'll be able to tell soon...
so I guess what im saying, is love your cameras and love them well... (try to treat them well too!)
oh, and wish me luck!
