to further complicate matters...

My own view has long been that it's better to save up/go into (modest) debt for a good camera than to buy a not-quite-good-enough camera you can "afford".

Cheers,

R.

i've actually shot more film than digital lately...but not alot of either.
i'm having a hard time walking & breathing at the same time so my excursions have been brief.

oh my goodness, Very Sorry to hear about your health
well stay away from developing chemicals if you are having difficulty breathing

Take care of your health, Joe. As for the D500, I never use continuous shooting modes, let alone 10 f/s. For me, the killer feature is the AF: full-width point coverage, intelligent subject selection, blinding fast acquisition. For event, I just need to point in the right direction, and it gets the shot.

It's a bit of a cop-out for this RF fan, but sometimes the conditions dictate. Yeah, I'm using flash, too. 🙂 Body-wise, the D500 is a true continuation of the fabled D300, and unmatched for event. I own these Nikon bodies, plus others (D3X, D7100, etc).

it's the actual camera itself. the look, the feel...i love the fujis and they are/will remain my main kit...the way my arthritis is going i'm not sure how long i could carry my canon f1 or any of the nikons really...i might be feeling a bit of panic believing i might be much more limited sooner than later.
I hate arthritis (getting it in the wrist (oh my youth is slipping)). Had to sell off everything heavy. So now I am enjoying the hell out of my Fuji X100t and assorted film rangefinders.😀

That's a sign, Joe, and not a good one. Better go see your doctor.

PF

my doctor is useless...i have gained a bunch of weight over the last 2 years (after having lost a bunch of weight) and he blames everthing on that! i can understand that my cardio is shot but the pain in my shoulder cannot be tied to weight gain...at least i doubt that very much. my joints are always in pain.

I would tell you to buy the D750 except you have no FX lenses.

If you are working with kit lenses & D200 + 55/200 they are just so so anyway.

D500 certainly is a better camera if you need its capability, high iso, more MP for larger prints. My d200 has made 11x14 that are equal to my D800 at same ISO.
Sure there is some very slight detail missing, but not enough to fret over. If you do sports, the AF will help. For family and scenery, not so much.

Count on replacing lenses to get the most from D500.
