I have been following the Frank is my hero thread. I looked around and decided I have to many cameras and I don't use them all. They just distract me from shooting.

1. Yashica Professional *
2. Olympus SPn *
3. Olympus 35RC
4. Minolta 7sII
5. Kiev 4 am (black) *
6. Kiev 4 a (silver)
7. Yashica CC *
8. Olympus OM-1MD + Lenses
9. Pentax Auto 110
10. Minolta 110 SLR
11. Leica compact zoom
12. a big box of P&S Canon and such.

4 of them are keepers and I want to use them more. The Yashica Professional, the Olympus SPn, the Yashica CC and the Black Kiev 4 am.

I just wondered if I should move the others along or just put them on the shelf? I just cleared of 5 I didn't use maybe the rest should go to.

My wife selected the Olympus 35RC as her camera when we were living on Okinawa some four decades ago. A nifty little camera with a turckload of features that could either do it all by itself or allow the photographer to factor in their own choices. It's a real keeper ... I wish we hadn't sold ours.

I hate to see unused potential, be it cameras, or, as Malcolm X pointed out, marginalized people. Cameras are pretty, but as industrial design that is most prettiest when being used. I say set them free!

But not "for" free! :)

Pretty is as pretty does. But they are so nice. Why not have a project where you cycle through them? a Diiferent one each week or month for a while.

i say, keep the oly om gear. it's cheap, it's good and ya never know when you might want macro or long. (plus, i gave you a om lens;))

sell me the minolta 7s2, just because i want 2 and rover to have none - he has enuf stuff:)

Joe rest easy I wouldn't sell a item I got as a gift. I might pass it on to another user but only after it was offered back to the sender first. I just seam to spend more time deciding what to carry in the camera bag and what to leave behind.

i wasn't meaning you couldn't sell the om gear because of the 300, just that i had an emotional investment in your gear. so much for my being a wiseguy.
i know what you mean about spending time deciding which gear to use as that was my main reason for paring down my own kit.
i envy some of the guys here with a lot of gear and no anxiety regarding which lens to take and when etc.

I really like the OM-1 kit and will most likely keep it. It's just when I typed the list I only wanted to keep 4 on the protected list. The other are unrestricted free agents.

John, I missed a Kiev 4AM from Peter this am.. If you decide to sell let me know. My Kiev's shutter ribbon fatigued and broke. It might be easier for me to just replace the entire camera rather than pack, mail, pay repairs and postage .. on the one I have. Also I'd rather avoid the dreaded 'ohboy' alternative..

I know you have it listed as a keeper , but if you change your thinking I'd like to talk. I'd pay the 'advertising' fee to RFF.

I'd second the motion to hold on to that Oly 35RC. It's still regarded as one of the handiest 'small' cameras.

I am still p-oed about what happened to mine. I bought it new in 1974. When I moved six-1/2 years ago, I had some of my cameras sitting on the couch waiting to go to the car. The movers were a couple of 'green cards' that apparently thought they deserved a little bonus beyond the exhorbitant price I paid for the moving. No more 35RC. That was the only one missing, but I wish I still had it. I replaced it with an Oly Stylus that is also a nice little camera, but the 35RC had a few controls the Stylus doesn't. Well, the Stylus is zoom and the 35RC wasn't, so maybe I complain in vain.

I know what you mean by not knowing which camera to take... ;)

Whether to keep all, or sell the ones you don't use, is only up to you. Do you need money? Would you spend the money wisely or just waste it?

I would suggest keeping the OMs and the red ones, and selling the rest. Spend the money on film and enlargements of your best photos.
