To Noctilux or Summilux ASPH

Honestly, if I had that kind of money to spend on lenses I'd get both of them.

That said, I want a Noctilux so bad I can taste it. I constantly want to take pictures practically in the dark, and if there's one thing I can do well, it's focus (let's not talk about all the other necessary skills right now...). I love the look of the lens and stopped down it seems quite capable as an everyday lens. The size doesn't bother me.

You can save yourself about $1,500, if that matters to you, and pick up the pre-asph Summiliux for around a grand. It's just the right size, focuses quickly by rolling your finger lightly along the barrel, and its signature is perhaps the nicest of all the Mandler designed lenses.

The Noctilux is too much like the 90 Summicron and 75 Summilux in that the focus throw is too stiff and too long to be used quickly, accurately and enjoyably on a rangefinder body. I know some people use them to good effect, and god bless 'em, but grabbing a stiff lens by the throat and wrestling it thru 180 degrees of focus throw is just no damn fun to me. 😀

Summilux 50mm asph is the most astonishing lens I have ever seen, it is just magic, shot some stuff on the weekend, it is amazing....
