Go with your instincts, but personally I'd be keeping the MP, the only thing that puts me off is how precious I'd be over it, and be scared to take it anywhere. That problem is magnified with the M9!

The only reason to sell the Summilux would be to turn a profit, they seem to be in high demand and I (perhaps mistakenly) think I can get another and put some money towards something else. Did anyone see the 35mm Summilux that sold for $8000 recently?!
call me a cynic but i'll believe that when i see the real buyer. Maybe i've lost touch with how bad (or good i guess your perspective) the market is for your lens but $8K? I thought maybe the seller just said "sold" so that now the "going" rate is closer to that... as clearly people already now think they can sell it for that since there is 1 thread said sold with a listing price of $8000. I have no interest in acquiring that lens, but thats my feeling on it.
Maybe some soul did spend that ...

Get yourself a used M8 for $2.5K to have a step into digital, you can also use your Leica lenses . See first whether digital is for you or how far for you. Try to master digital. Then you can decide about selling anything...

The best camera is one that still works!
I'd sell the MP and keep the Summilux ... that lens will give you the same results on a Bessa body or a beater M2 that it does on the MP.
And in the end it's all about the images ... right?

Keep the glass. You need that for your M9. If you sell the glass away with the MP, you'll kick yourself for that after you have the M9 in your hands.

id love a black paint mp, id keep that baby for life and work it like it should be worked!
if you love the lens, don't let it go. you will feel empty forever.
since you have your personalised m7, maybe the mp isn't getting use and probably (i stress, "probably") is better off elsewhere?
that said, we probably all have too many cameras!

Sell the MP, keep the lens. Get an M3 instead. It's the SAME camera for all intents and purposes.

Don't sell !!! You have one of the best combos out there, not to
mention one of the best built machines (MP) any good photographer
could want.

I voted to keep the whole kit, but at a minimum keep the lens. You got the best, no need to put that back on your needs list in the future.

1. Keep both. Do not sell either in this depressed economy, because neither are rare or not readily available.
2. How much would I pay for these items? You'll have to do the work any seller should do: set a selling price after researching previous sales, looking at what you paid and when, and asking yourself what selling price you can live with. And be patient if you do not get what you want.

Great point and reason why I kept my Hasselblad. I KNEW I would buy it again someday..

I'd keep everything. You have 0.72x & 0.85x film bodies and a stellar standard lens. You also have a good eye and apart from the time/scanning issue you don't really need an M9. If you hanker after an M9 save your pennies and Leica may have produced a reliable digital camera by the time you have the dosh. Also reread your own blog about the allure of film...

Thanks! All signs point to my keeping both. And better still - using both. I really like the signature for the summilux wide open and it was the main reason for purchase in the first place. And the MP works very well with the 35mm. OK, now for less gear talk and more shootin'!

I would sell the MP (a quite overrated camera, IMHO) and keep the lens. Lenses like the 50mm Summilux ASPH made Leica famous and I am 100% sure that you would miss that lens on a FF dRF camera.![]()
I couldn't agree more, however try an M9 with the Summilux before you sell the MP.
The Summilux 50 asph is definately a keeper lens.

Keith, you are joking right? We all know MP owners and fanboys just fondle them, it has absolutely nothing to do with the images

I think Gabor has a great take on the matter. Glass is usually more expensive and harder to come by.

I would keep the Lux 50 ASPH. They are in short supply and you have to be mighty lucky to find one at retail pricing. With the number of M8, M82, & M9 expanding the rangefinder market the manufacture of lens appear to be behind the market demand.
You may be able to raise the money you need by selling the lux but will you enjoy your photography as much?
