too good to be true?

i came across this deal last week:

Did anyone else come across this too? Seems like an amazing deal, a #1,100,000+ SS M3 with a rigid 50mm Summicron all in supposedly excellent condition for $823?! Seems like an excellent price for the body alone. The reason i am agonizing over this is i recently acquired a #895,xxx DS M3 with a ding in the back and a slightly hazy Summarit for $775. Seems like a steal for just $48 dollars more. Says 286 people viewed it, and everyone passed up on it? Maybe you guys know something i don't. I actually was watching it last week but passed up on it thinking it would definitely exceed my budget of around $800. On a minor side note, are the #1,000,000+ M3s really better than the earlier ones or is that just a myth to up the resale value? Thanks for your input.

I paid a little more than that for a cleaner M3 SS body only with a serial number 120k lower, so I guess it's probably a good deal. Getting a CLA (clean, lube, adjust) for older cameras is usually a good idea I think - sometimes on mine the shutter doesn't move at an even speed so part of the frame is darker. I'm going to send it to someone pretty soon to have that adjusted. Just something to figure into the cost.

Did you buy it? Were you the winner? Sounds like a great deal to me. There is DS M3 at a local shop, much older & dinged up pretty good, fresh from a CLA by DAG for the same price.

Factor in $300 for a CLA on the body and about $100 for a CLA on the lens and its not such a great deal.

Its an as-is camera being sold non-camera folk. Anything could be wrong with it.

If your M3 and lens work just fine, you should be happy with that deal. I paid just about what you paid for your combo for just an M3 by itself. Life's too short to sit around and worry about the deals you missed. You got an excellent camera, go use it! 🙂
