I just took my Fed 3b out off the Classifieds. It is the last of my LTM cameras, and a nice one to boot:D

Woke up this morning and realised the inevitabile consequence of my FSU addiction, namely that in a few weeks time I would find myself having to replace it,so the obvious thing was to hang on to it and enjoy:D

" I used to be uncertain, but now 1'm not sure " (well used UK self mockery):D

Good for you mate. The FSU rangefinders are a lot of fun and great value to boot. I wouldn't flog my Kiev or Fed...

I have tried ignore the fact that I like the simplicity of the trusty FED 2 and have even given a couple away - but darn it another one will catch my eye and then after a heavy sigh - I give in.

Brian,
Thank you!
I have a FED 3b somewhat similar to yours but for the fact that mine needs some serious work. So, I had been looking at the one you had for sale...thinking that it would be easier to buy yours and then get mine serviced. Really poor thinking on my part: I don't need another FED3. But now that option is unavailable so I won't have another camera to deal with and will only need to pay for getting the one I already have sorted.
Now if I could get the wind lever from the FED mated to the Zorki 3m body...I'd have a 50 year old Bessa with no meter or frame lines. And like it.

You could try the 4K lever on the 3M. It would be an easier more workable solution. I have not even looked at that yet. I may have to delve into it a bit deeper. I believe that you would have to drill some holes as the 4K advance has some screws coming through the top casing to secure the spring. I will have to compare the two tops. I don't think that they are that different as I had this idea a bit ago and started figuring out how it would work out. Of course the obvious question is why go to all the work when you can just buy a Z4K and get everything you are talking about. I know, the Z3 series is just plain sexier than the lowly Z4K!!!!

Oh sure, be sensible about it:D . I will get a 4K for myself, eventually, but I just like the lever itself from the FED3b--it would be a good fit aesthetically with the Z3, I think.
Maybe the thing to do would be to make a lever that would work with the Z4 winding mech. and have the shape/profile of the F3b's lever?
And after this kind of surgery, the resulting Z3M(b) would need to have a good and consistent finish...black enamel, please!

I think the Fed-2, when properly serviced, is a wonderful LTM... and there are so many great lenses around. Personally, I like the Fed-2c with the large mushroom knob. After a CLA, winding will be butter smooth, and one that I have, is quieter than the shutter of my M2! Take care, tho' that R/F alignment is right on at both ends... Infinity and close focus. For those handy with tools, there's a sticky DIY thread in the Russian forum.
Cheers...

Strangely, as much as I like them, I think I'm done with FSU camera GAS.

A black Kiev 4A and a good-looking Fed 2 are all I have and I'm content :)

Hi Rob,
Glad to have sort of 'done you a favour':)

Hope you get the FED fixed.

Good to hear from you.

Brian.
