Top 35 film cameras of 2020

Nikonos V at #11 though...that makes sense. What an awesome camera that is.

They write:
It requires a battery for all operations which include a built-in LED display light meter and a shutter with a maximum speed of 1/1000th of a second.

This is incorrect. It has a mechanical shutter speed of 1/90 and does not need a battery to advance or wind the film.

I think they made the same error on a lot of cameras.

I don't doubt their findings, but I do find a few slightly strange. Enough people Google Contax G1 and G2 that both end up in the top 35? And enough people Google the Konica C35 that its on the list at all? I'm sure its a fine camera, its just that I'd never even heard of it. More searches than the K1000? More than any Minolta?

Never heard of the C-35? Back in the 70's I worked at a camera store in downtown Chicago and we sold a ton of them. It was an early compact 35, auto exposure with RF focusing and an excellent semi-wide 38mm f2.8 Hexanon lens. Not much bigger than a Rollei 35 but easier handling.

I would love to see the same type of list but for lenses. Cameras is always a bit obvious especially with film cameras but lenses searched could be interesting.

It doesn't seem quite correct to call the SWC a "zone focus" camera. Sure, there's no rangefinder or reflex viewing, but all distances can be set on the lens - it's continuous. To me, "zone focus" means something like three fixed distances - close, middle, far - not a continuous focus range.

Also, if you use the groundglass attachment, you can focus precisely. I've done it.

As for Canon's T series - personally I dislike their ergonomics and the advertising text scribbled on the pentaprism. The F-1(n, N), AE-1(P), and FTb👎 are my favorites.

Rangefinders (more or less)
1. Leica M6
5. Leica M3
9. Leica M4
16. Konica C35
20. Yashica Electro 35
22. Contax G2
27. Leica M2
34. Contax G1
35. Konica Hexar RF

The Konica C35 is searched more than the Canonet QL17 GIII?

35mm SLRs
2. Canon AE-1
10. Nikon FE2
12. Olympus OM-1
13. Nikon FM2
15. Canon AE-1 Program
19. Nikon F5
21. Canon FTb
28. Nikon F3
32. Pentax ME Super

The Nikon FE2 is searched more than the FM2? I guess it is cheaper and "easier to use.” But why is the F5 searched more than the F3?

Point & Shoots (more or less)
3. Contax T2
6. Olympus MJU II
18. Konica Big Mini
23. Yashica T3
25. Leica Minilux
24. Olympus XA

Is Yashica T3 a typo? Shouldn't that be T4? Or are people looking for a cheaper alternative?

Medium format
4. Pentax 6x7
7. Mamiya 7
8. Hasselblad 500C/M
14. Pentax 67II
17. Mamiya RZ67
26. Hasselblad SWC
29. Zenza Bronica ETR-Si
30. Rolleiflex 2.8F
31. Yashica Mat 124 G

No surprises.

Underwater cameras
11. Nikonos-V

Interesting.

Instant cameras
33. Polaroid Land Camera 1000

I can't believe the SX-70 isn't on the list! What's going on?

Odd top. Good for speculants, who buy for little and sell for much more.
M6 is overpriced for nothing.
All of those electrical Contaxes are not good choice. They are same like Hexar.
It is easy to sell for this dude, but who is going to service them? Leica Minilux with its famous cable failure?
Even XA is something which is not going to last in real use these days.
Canon AE, who in clear mind would put it on top. Every hipster with camera like this I meet was asking - how I fix it?
Monstrosity MF SLRs are next to absolute.

It is top for sale list, not for real use. Except Nikon SLRs.
Honestly, I would think a lot these days if invest in Leica M at all.
If you are real user. He dumped all over the list expensive to service, wait for parts and expensive ones M and some nothing special fixed lens too old RFs with electronics, but none of LTMs?

What a tool.

I have (or had) at least eleven of them, not sure on a couple. Also variations of at least six others. I too wonder why the Canon GIII didn't make the list, but then that's the Internet for you. I saw at least three I'd like to have, but it will be a while before I can make that kind of investment.

Yes, I think "scale focus" is a more acceptable term for the SWC.

Personally not weird but useless..
Nikon F3 near bottom, the PRO camera for like 20+ years..
Unlike Leica that regularly need repairs, i own 3 Leica M..
Minilux piece of junk. The Contax well ***..
