Nikon F, bought on second hand in 77, still there. I changed the mirror amortizer ( ?? ) two weeks ago, a friend gave me a piece of the appropriate material.

This thing seems indestructible. ( But he photomic is out since a long time...)

Very good feeling with my D700 too.

Sorry for my approximative english.;)

It's weird that no one else has this problem, but I actually can't get around it.

When I turn the camera vertically to take shots, I do it so that the prism is facing the left, and the advance lever must be out a few cm's to allow the shutter to go off. When I bring the camera to my eye to frame and take the picture, the jutting out advance lever presses up hard against my eyebrow long before I can get my eye up to the viewfinder. It's really weird that no one else has this problem - I don't have a prominent eyebrow or anything haha...

it can be a bigger issue for left eye shooters, esp. those who wear glasses.
i know.

I see that no-one's mentioned the Rolleiflex SL2000/3003. I never owned one but I've been very tempted over the years. If only I hadn't gone and bought into the Yashica/Contax brand.
I rate the RTS II and the AX as the best SLRs I've owned. The biggest disappointment is a Canon Eos 10D.

The Canon F1N and T90 must be added. That's all I use.

Canon offered spotmetering before Nikon did.

The Contax SLR sported some of the best lenses anywhere.

F3P with MD-4.

My F3P was purchased from a Newspaper, after it was overhauled. The cost of repair exceeded the original cost, and their policy was to dump the camera, even though it was good to go.

My F3P had just returned from Operation Dessert Storm. I have two other F3's and two F2AS's, but the F3P has mojo and enough differant features to make it extra evil.

Pentax for me : K2, MX, LX

No Hasselblad on the list?

No hassy, he did say 35mm

The Pentax line had many professional users. Really should be added for a serious poll.

Of course, I voted for Nikon.

PENTAX LX

Okay, I didn't see tally up all the Pentax votes, and I realize this is "unscientifiec" but why did you leave Pentax off the list again?

I can only vote for the ones I've had: Nikon, OM, and Pentax. Right now I'm mostly Pentax due to the fact I can use their heritage lenses on their digital line and still not lose metering functions. I still have my Nikon F, FM2, and 8008 but they're collecting dust. Sold off my OM10 - I lusted for the OM's (1,2,3,4) for a long time but never got around to replacing lenses which got stolen.

As a left eye viewer who wears glasses Nikon designs try to poke me in the eye too, so my vote goes to OM1 in the absence of Pentax LX/MX.

This is hard everyone will have differing opinions for differing reasons. While I would have to nominate some top end favourites - the Contarex "bullseye" for example and of course the Nikon F and maybe the F2, I would also nominate some personal favourites that I still use. Included in these are the Pentax Spotmatic and Pentax various ""pre Spotmatic" cameras like the S1 (H1) and S1a (H1a). Didn't they have an ad back then about "the Whole world holding a Pentax" or something of this sort. And for a time it seemed that the whole world did hold a Pentax. These ubiquitous cameras had a great range of lenses and accessories and brought high quality photogrpahy to the multitude. I especially like the "pre Spotmatics." If you look carefully you will see that absent the pentaprism their form factor is not dissimilar to the Leica Screw mount cameras - very elegant and nice to use.

Amateriat how could you forget this classic :bang:

cheers,
Wim :D

Okay, I didn't see tally up all the Pentax votes, and I realize this is "unscientifiec" but why did you leave Pentax off the list again?

The reason: When the Pentax LX was released, I got hold of a pair of them and quickly built a system around them, having sold off my Canon system to help pay for all this. On paper, the LX wrapped up my favorite features of several cameras and put them in a body marginally bigger than an Olympus OM. Whee!

But...you know the joke about pioneers? Less than two months later, I got the equivalent of two arrows in the back when both my LX bodies packed up, victims of what was then a mysterious mirror-box mechanics problem. Pentax' techs couldn't nail the problem (and, believe me, they tried...I got true VIP treatment from them at the time). Ultimately, I gave up, trading the whole lot for a pair of (used) F3 bodies and an MD-4 motor.

While I don't harbor any ill will toward Pentax, that little adventure took a lot out of me. So, for this poll, the LX is off the list.

And certain old motorcycles shift with the right foot. I never liked those, either. ;)

I see that no-one's mentioned the Rolleiflex SL2000/3003. I never owned one but I've been very tempted over the years.
I owned an SL2000 for a little under a month. The novelty wore off about a week short of that.

The evilest SLR for me was the Canon AE-1, because it was one of the first I had ever used that had auto exposure. That thing was so cool at the time. My girlfriend had one and I coveted that thing almost as much as I coveted her thing.... I was feeling nostalgic several years ago and bought one off of CL. It just wasn't the same. :D
