Topcon 35-S with Topcor Seikosha-MX Lens 4.4cm f2

I can't tell you if it is rare or not or the right price. I can say mine appears to be very well built and the lens, 4.4cm f2, a very good performer. Just an all around quailty fixed lens P&S in my opionion but I am no expert. It is also the only one I have seen locally but we are in the backend of nowhere.

Do you remember how much you paid for it?

I did a search I found some info. It is a neat RF with 1:1 viewfinder with a nice lens. I guess it is rare, not much in rff and no items on ebay. I found in photo.net that in 2005 the price for it on ebay was 175$...And in an auction site it says a mint one can go for 150$. I guess that is it...Any other people using it?

It literally fell into my lap when a friend bought a bunch of photo gear and wanted to cull what he did not need/want. So the price I paid, I think it was something like $20.00 CAD, was probably under what they may be worth on the open market. I just thought it was a nice RF that I had not seen before and warranted trying out and adding to my, gasp, collection, especially at that price.

I have a Topcon 35-S and the later Topcon 35-L which had the
availability of a unique Topcon meter made for it, as well as the
LV shutter/aperture combination. Two of my favorite fixed-lens
rangefinders, with that nice Topcor 44cm/2 lens. Only part I don't
care for is the double stroke film advance.
These cameras are quite rare not being found everyday. I paid $250+
for mine and I've only ever seen 3-4 Topcon 35-S's ever listed on Ebay.
Bob, your lucky your friend didn't know the potential $ of this find. How
are things in B-Town?

Now it is my turn to feel silly, I just checked and mine is a 35-L not an S, sorry. The lens is the same so I will stick with saying it is pretty decent. Been awhile since I have used it and forgot about the doble stroke but it can be gotten used to. Oh, I think my friend knew the value but was quite happy when I pointed out two highly valuable Pentax lenses in his haul. He was more than happy and so was I with the deal. I just recognized the name Topcon as being highly regarded for their SLRs and felt that the camera was built with quality when I handled it. What is B-town?

wow now I bought one 35-S and will test if it fully works I will keep it. Probably will sell afterwards as I dont like having a crowded kit. So what would be a price for a working 35-S then?

Topcon... Beseler....???

Topcon... Beseler....???

I do know that my first SLR was a very well built Beseler Topcon Unirex, which I purchased from a Hong Kong camera shop in 1970.
I also know that I was intrigued to buy the camera because Beseler contracted with the US Navy using their more sophisticated 35 SLR which I believe became the Topcon Super D.

Your rangefinder probably preceeded these SLR models.

I do know they were regarded very highly in the late 60's, early 70's. I still have my original Unirex.

Yes SLRs from Topcon are much more common and can be found on ebay all the time. Prices range from 100-200$ I suppose. more than any other SLR from that time, close to Nikon F prices.

well finally got my topcon 35-s but I am frustrated as I was told that it is functional...well it is not. the shutter does not open at all even at B. And there is a piece of glass broken in the lens...the focus is stiff and lens is wobbly...I bought on kijiji thru paypal, I will open a dispute I hope I can get my money back...

Is there any user manual of the camera to see if all parts are in place?

Hi Bob,

I realized that shutter lever at the side of the lens is stuck. The shutter setting lever is staying at upper position all the time. Is there an easy fix?

Thank you very much for the user manual by the way!

Glad I could at least help out by pointing out the manual. I am not a camera technician but the shutter remaining cocked and not releasing could be a relatively easy fix for a qualified repair person. If nothing is broken then it may only be a case of old gummed up lube and dirt causing the problem and a good cleaning should fix it. Find a good repairer in your area and get an estimate.

The seller did not even reply. I could ask for a partial refund for the repair...You may be right. I can be an easy fix and it may be worth quite a lot after fixing...There is that little broken part of the lens bugging me though. It is not at the center so it may not affect the image..It is such a nice camera, I loved it, i wish it was in better shape.
