Hi All,

Just returned home from a trip to Italy and France where I gave my new (to me anyway) M4-P a workout for a few weeks....but more on that (and the swanky Luigi case I got for it while in Italy) in another thread later today....

On my way back to Winnipeg, I stopped for a couple of days in Toronto and had a poke around some of the camera stores.

I saw a nice Canonet QL17 with case at Henry's outlet store (not the main store, the one where ALT used to be). The camera seems to be in good shape, the case is a bit beat up but the price for both seems fair...$79 canadian. I already have two of them so I could not justify the purchase but if anyone is in the market for a nice QL, this one may warrant a close look.

I also went to Vistek....

I don't know why I go to Vistek.

Somehow I think it will be somewhat less underwhelming than the last time I visited but no....

somehow they always manage to make the place even more, well , lame each time I visit.

This time, after weaving my way through arrays of bland inkjet printers, drive-in movie theatre sized computer monitors and "pro" video gear, I managed to find a sort of camera department. A longish counter behind which I noticed a couple of large format cameras (with digi backs of course) and all manner of Canon and Nikon gear was at one end of the room. Behind it sat what I suppose were store employees.

I had originally decided to visit Vistek in the hopes of getting a look at the new Ziess Ikon Rangefinder. I saw one in Milan but did not get a chance to handle it. I figured Vistek might have one that I could see up close and personal.

Approacing the camera counter I asked "Do you have one of the new Zeiss Ikon Rangefinder in stock that I might have a look at?"

The fellow looked at me with one of those "do you really need to bother me" looks and answered "No. We stopped carrying rangefinders years ago. "

Fair enough. No problem....expect for the fact there there was a brand spanking new Leica MP sitting on the shelf directly BEHIND HIS HEAD!

No rangefinders? Not in years?

Hey Zippy, you may want to lay off the doobie during lunch hour 'cause it looks like Vstek does sell rangefinders afterall. But you may not have noticed them seeing as you are so damn busy trying to get the entire stool you are on jammed into your fat, flatulent......

ok

ok

sorry about that.

I sort of got off on a tangent there for a bit.

Ok.

So,

now onto more positive things

The APUG conference will be held in Toronto in a couple of weeks.

Anyone going?

I am.

Wanna meet up? maybe in the Vistek rangefinder department?

Should have a lot of us there.... all the usual 'nere do wells should be out and about 🙂
I'll take a boo, probably FrankS, GeneW etc. etc. etc.

Might be a great time for a Toronto meet 🙂

Dave

Hey Dave,

There will be at least a handfull of Winnipeger's attending the conference. In fact, I will be having an exhibit of my work at that time. Details are still to be worked out but it looks like I will be showing at a gallery/cafe in Leaside.....and it is ALL rangefinder stuff to boot!
