Ray: I hinted once that I want to do a 35mm comparison "soon", but I would need quite a few donor lenses. I have only three 35mm lenses on hand right now.
Canon 35mm/2.8
Summicron 35mm/2.0
Canon 35mm/1.8
Each of the above is in my eyes a high level performer.

You may want the on-camera meter for the interiors. I would also throw the 25/4 in the bag since it is small and light.
Ray: You guys are messing with me! I absolutely love your suggestion above. It is very logical and practical without being too overwhelming. I would then not need to change cameras. I may use M3+35 since my 35 has goggles and will not fit the M6 [unless I use the Canon lens]. The M6 could be paired with the Summicron 50 or the J-3.

Yeah, if you were willing to carry just a bit more weight, this is a great setup. In my case, I would have the M3 with Elmar M 50/2.8 (so that it's still physically small) loaded with slower film and that would be my outside shooter and the M6 with Summicron 35 loaded with faster film and that would be my inside shooter since it's also a bit wider which is thus useful inside with tighter quarters. All that easily fits in a Domke F-5XB case with room to spare for a wider and/or longer and/or faster lens and extra film. Basically this describes my "extended travel" kit.

One camera, one lens.
"It's the photographer, not the camera," right?

You know, they have great camera stores in Germany.
How about leaving with a one camera/one lens combo and returning
with 2 cameras and 2 lenses ?
Cheers,
Roland.

Roland: My wife just "suggested" to me that I not over-use the credit card while away. I have a feeling that returning with more cameras and lenses may not be well received. On the other hand,....
I once bought a mint Leica R4 for DM450, which I then sold three days later on ebay for $450, covering my $300 film developing and prints cost in Germany. Now that was fun, and my wife liked the deal.

On my last overseas trip I took an Panasonic FZ50 and my wife used an Oly C5050. We could have easily used only the C5050 except for the animal shots. If I were to go where you are going and wanted to travel light with a film RF it would be one body and the old 21/35/90 combo with the 35 getting most of the use. That is from past experience. You could standardize on fast film with ND filters for outside work if necessary. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

I am going on a trip to Miami next week, and have also been thinking about
what to take, My decision is Bessa R with 35, and a Rollei 35 T.
I want to photograph the Art Deco Hotels, the question is Colour or B & W

Or, just go with M3 and two lenses, and buy a disposable if Leica fails. Shouldn't be too hard to find a disposable camera in Germany.

Eugene: So there really is no need for a back-up camera with the availability of a disposable camera. If I will take a small P&S as a second camera it will not be as a back-up but for occasional color shots.
The minimal set-up with the M3 (or M6 or CL) plus 25/35/50 or 28/50/90 or maybe just the 28/50 or 25/50 is a small package.
I am really [really] tempted to go just with the Graflex XLW and nothing else. Each photo would be special. I know, it is MF and this would mean more processing cost afterwards. Also, the 47mm lens is slow (at f8.0) and maybe too wide.

I would take a 35mm and a 25mm (24mm in Leica) and one body.
After all it's not a job and there's still lots of great shots out there to take with the 35mm. If you don't think one camera would be enough for a couple week trip you need a better brand.

I like travelling with two small cameras on belt pouches: Oly XA loaded with B&W film, and a small digicam with IS for colour. Amazing versatility if you're not allergic to the 'd' word

Gene: I am still allergic [big time] to the "D" word. I have never even digested the auto focus approach. I must be very old fashioned and out datedin my thinking. The XA, however, is nice.

Rob: If I take two cameras then it is not because I am afraid of camera failure. I would have color film for snapshots in one camera and B&W in the other camera for street photography. I still may go with one camera.

Not necessarily. It's just different tastes. I have no issue with anyone who doesn't like digital. I still shoot lots of film and still love it.raid said:Gene: I am still allergic [big time] to the "D" word. I have never even digested the auto focus approach. Gene: I simply enjoy film based photography. I hold no grudges against other types of media. I can see how practical it is to go digital at times.

Of course if you really want to go light and still have two cameras with differrent lenses do what I did last time I went to Japan. In one pocket was my XA with Fujichrome 100, in the other my XA4 (28mm lens) with neopan 400, sometime I swaped around.

I sold my XA4, so your strategy would not work for me.
I could use the XA in one pocket and the Minox GT in the other.

Hey, we're RF users. We should count ourselves lucky (or wise) to have small cameras and lenses in our possession. I just got back from my first time in New York. I took, in one small Crumpler bag, a R-D1, CV 15, 21, 28(1.9), 35(2.5) and a 50 summicron. I normally stick to three, but NY was just too much of an opportunity to risk missing a shot. The 21 and 35 saw 80% of the action, I would guess. A also had an XA as backup.
