...building on the heavy man thread and my travelling this summer...
thinking of getting the new 50/2 and pairing it with the 27/2.8...

27 should really cover quite a bit of territory and the 50 should be fine for family portraits.
mate each lens to an xe2 and that would be a light enough package to carry.
buying another lens would mean postponing getting an xpro2 till i can sack some more cash away.
good thing i like those xe2 bodies!

Why not go with one body for even lighter travel, or do you want a backup?

The XE2 has grown on me over time. I'm not a fan of EVFs--I hate how they get darker in bright light and get brighter in low light. But the XE2 feels nice and it's a small package when mated to a small lens, with the 27 pancake it's only a little larger than the X100 series. I haven't read anything about the 50mm Fuji since it's not a focal length that appeals to me, however, mating a slightly long lens to one body and a slightly wide lens to a second body seems like one solution to a light travel outfit.

i think the darker/lighter evf can be fixed with a setting on the camera...mine do not do that.

I just did a Cuba trip with my XE2. I packed very light (for me). XE2 body, Fuji 10-24, Canon FD 55mm f/1.2 (with metabones speed booster) -- There were a couple times I could have used something longer, but for the most part, I felt I had excellent coverage. I wish you happy travels!

Maybe a better description would be how the EVF increases contrast in already contrasty light to the point the highlights are blown and the shadows lose detail. I can handle the increased brightness under low light much better but the bright light performance has always bothered me in all EVFs I've used.

I have an XE2 and an XE2S and both are the same. I've adjusted the EVF and LCD brightness in both but it doesn't do much, if anything. I have the same issue with the X100S when I use the EVF instead of the OVF.

While I'm obviously not a huge fan of EVFs, I still use them and acknowledge they do have some advantages. But I guess I'll always prefer OVFs, be they rangefinder window type or the TTL finders in SLRs.

nice plan, joe - that kit would be a pleasure to carry all day. greatly prefer two bodies to repeated lens changing.

me, i'd want for something wider than the 27/2.8 depending on where i'd be shooting, like the 18/2. still small and light.

If you can go without AF how about a small inexpensive adapted 50mm or 58mm lens? You already have the beautiful Fuji 56mm after all and it would save funds toward the XP2.

A Jupiter 8 on a basic M-Fuji adapter is light and inexpensive. I have a C mount 50mm that actually does pretty well on the Fuji and it is very tiny.

needs to be af...manual focus is hard for me these days between the arthritis and my eyes...i wear progressive lenses.
i like the idea of the 50/2 for some street shooting...i'd keep the 56 as well.

never selling the 23 or 56...

Got it, the 50/2 does look like it is a good lens.

Inspired by this thread I went about setting up a light weight setup too. In a F5XA I have a three prime setup with a gripped X Pro 2 and the 14 F2.8, 18 F2 and either 35mm will fit.

27 + 50 would be a pretty combo as long as you're comfortable with 27 as your widest.
my travelling gear for our upcoming road trip will be the Zeiss 12 + XF 18.
will be bringing my FM2 with CV 28 and 50 as well so that I can use the 50 for extra reach on the XT-2 as well.

the 16 and the 27 and the 50 would be close to ideal and still pretty small and light...or 16 & 50...i really like the 16 on the street.

don't wait on the 16 if you have the budget for it...it's a great lens!
