Tri-X at 200 in ID-11

Ok folks I've recently been shooting HP5+ at 200 and souping it in ID-11 1+3 for 15 mins, nice numbers even I can remember and I love the results.

I now want to try shooting my other favorite film which is Tri-X but at 200 instead of 400. I'm sure many others here are doing this already, so my question is what dilutions and times would you suggest.

I've looked at the Massive Development Chart Bible but like personal experiences for my start times.

I think I've guesstimated the timings for myself so will do some testing. Happy to post my findings if anyone is interested 😉

Times should be close to those of HP5. Why don't you keep the same dilution/time but then make a test exsposing:
100, 200, 320,400,640, 800 - blank - 100, 200, 320,400,640, 800........

Then snip a piece and develop, so you can check which your personal speed will be.

Well, off the top of my head, 200 seems awfully slow for TXT (or HP5, for that matter) in ID-11 1+3. You should get pretty decent speed at that dilution. But if it works for you for HP5...

the MDC lists TXT @ 200 for ID-11 1+1 for 9.5 minutes. Unfortunatley, it doesn't list a time for that dilution at that EI for HP5. I think you would be well served to try different EI's, but if you're pretty certain you want to shoot at 200, I guess shooting an entire roll at that and then snipping it into 2-3 pieces would be best. Just develop each snip for more/less to zero in on a time that works for you.

The 3 pictures in my gallery where shot with HP5+ @ 200 and the wet prints have a beautiful richness to them.

I'm going to try a roll of Tri-X @ 200 souped the same as I would the HP5+ @200 first. Tri-X is so forgiving that I should get quite close with just a few adjustments needed to nail the time.

If that fails I'll give your method a spin. I've submitted a few times/dilutions to the MDC using Rodinal, so it looks like I'll have to do the same for these 2 when I nail them LOL

Tri-X and HP5+ at 200 are my fav combos for MF shooting. The richness and tonality is beautiful.

Tri-X rated 200 and Xtol 1:1 for 8 min, and 1:3 for 10 min works well for me. I like Xtol alot, a little sharper than D76, here are a couple examples:

Gene and Todd thank you both, I was beginning to feel alone in pulling these down to 200.

I'm also happy you both also find the richness and tonality beautiful as I do. Well worth the loss of one stop I think to get that look.
