Tri-x expired in 2002, but kept in cold.

What kind of results can i expect from tri-x that expired in 2002, but has been kept in cold? There is some on ebay. 20 rolls for about 50$ (including shipping) is a good deal. 20 rolls of new tri-x would be about 100$ where I live.

They guy has lots more of different expired films for sale, so im guessing hes gone digital, and is selling off his film stash.

I would be using the film on a trip next month. It would be going through the airport x-ray atleast 4 times. Last year all my films were fine (including tri-x at 3200), but im not sure how this old film would react to x-rays.

Probably will be as good as current dated film, if he really kept it chilled.

It may not be bad if it wasn't.

Shoot it, develop it. If it is freaky or goofed up; tell people you do this all the time, because you like the effect of out of date film as you are an artist. And you are, I look at your gallery all the time. I would buy it, but then I'm always looking for something different. Beside, it isn't that old.

fresh dated 30 meter rolls should cost the same,should they?
I can get one locally for 30$+shipping(10-20$) and send it to you if it's a problem to get where you live(transfer me the money via paypal,no prob).

All the photos in the above link were shot using tri-x expired in 1998. Right now, I'm shooting Plus-X expired in 1993. I shoot expired film most of the time.

Black and white film ages a lot better than colour (since there's no colour shift). Like M. Valdemar said, if it really was kept cold or frozen for any significant amount of time, you probably won't notice a difference from the fresh stuff. I've gone through many rolls of black and white film ~10 years passed its expiry and had no issues. Just play it safe and do a test roll with nothing important on it.

I used a couple of Tri-X rolls, expired 2003 but kept cold, a week ago. Souped them in APH09, no problems - looked fine. But the higher the ISO, the more likely it is to be fogged. I've used a 30´ roll of Plus-X, expired in 1983 which worked great, but a Tri-X would be pretty fogged, I guess.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I guess the tri-x is safe to buy. Though after I posted this thread I noticed that they are 24 frame rolls. So 20 24 frame rolls is the same as 13 36 frame rolls. This changes things.

Michael, thanks for the offer. I will consider it. I have a bulk loader and a bunch of reloadable cassettes. But im not sure how light-proof these old cassettes are, and I wouldnt want lose any images from the trip to a leaking cassette.

I reload old color cassetes.not a single problem in 3 years.

I have some Verichrome from 1979 in the 126 format which still gives me acceptable results.
