We're all light!
Not necessarily "weird": Epson more or less got their b/w printing act together with the x800 series printers (4800, 7800, 9800 et al). But I checked out of the Epson camp before these came out, and went with HP, which I still use. That's weird because I get the BEST B&W out of an Epson 7800 on Ilford Smooth Pearl.
Mike: I don't think I was among the earliest "pioneers" playing with inkjet printers for fine-art photo work, but I do have an arrow-hole or two in the back to show for my efforts.
I'd been waiting for something close to a turn-key system for quality black-and-white printing, and only in the last four years or so has it seemed that we're collectively "getting there.") Personally, I feel HP got there first, then Epson, and finally Canon. I'm losing a lot less sleep as a result (at least from printing...in this life, there's always something to fill the vacuum).
