Tri-X or HP5 Plus?

I haven't shot with Tri-x yet, but I am really impressed with HP5+ pushed 1 stop. I am sure it will go another quite ok as well. I get a pro Lab to develop mine so far. I would like to learn how to develop myself though. Here are a few shots of HP5+ pushed to 800. Scanned with Silverfast and a Nikon 9000.

These are all from my Australian shearing series. I shot 80% of it on digital and 20% on film as I am new to film. Comparing my shots after a few scans, I think I will be shooting personal projects in mostly film from now on.

Andrew: That is very impressive! I have a roll of HP5+ waiting to be developed, and it is marked that I shot it at EI 800. I have Rodinal and DD-X available for developers.

Anyone have any ideas as to processing? I don't have to user Rodinal or DD-X; I could get a bottle of HC-110, but I don't want to go to D-76 due to its keeping properties.

I find that EI 800 is just right for HP5 to be developed in Diafine, which lasts amost indefinitely. :)

DD-X at Ilford's recommended time (10 mins @ 20 degrees) works very well.

My reaction to this Thread is Whew!...

First, I'm very impressed with Andrew's sheep shearing pix with HP5 Plus at 800.
And, I have noted some Developing options in the posts following. I have been avoiding 'developing my own again' like the plague. Re: scanning, I can get decent scans at moderate cost. I don't know of anywhere in Jerusalem where I can get quality B/W film dev. My buddy Ruben does his own.

Some months ago, at Foto Film in Tel Aviv, I was told that Tri-x is no longer available. Yikes! But, HP5 Plus is plentiful. So, there we have it. Now... where did I put the stainless steel tank and reels?

It seems to me the only way you see the image as it was captured through the camera lens is in a positive film (and then only when you look directly at the mounted slide).

Wow, that's an amazing statement -- goes to follow, there should only be one copy of every film !!

Martin: Thank you. I will go with the DD-X. I'll have to apologize to the Rodinal, of course. ;)

I have always prefered Tri-X although i have only tried ilford films in sheet film form they just did not print as easy or give the look i like ( probably my own fault but i have to go with what works for me) and two other less than scientific reasons

A) just as i like to shoot with cameras that are at least as old as me, Tri-X and the M3 came to market the year i was born and even if Kodak could not leave it alone it has a rich history and a look that i love

B) i stoped at a camera store about 20 years ago and was purchasing a roll of Tri-x and a bottle of Rodinal and the clerk said to me "you know God shoots Tri-x and develops it in Rodinal" and the more i use this combination the more i belive that he was right
