On the way home from work, i got this crazy idea, what if i got a tattoo of a tri-x box? I have been considering a tattoo for a while because my 18th birthday is coming up, and i think it would be kind of a neat thing to have. In 10-20 years tri-x might be gone forever and it could be my way of remembering. It might be kinda cool to show my kids or grandkids one day? Any thoughts or comments? Is this a bad idea?

Rather than a tat of the film box, why not a tat of the film itself... you know, with the leader, perforated edge (if 35mm) and appropriate edge markings. Have it put on a long part of the body like the arm (24 exposure) or leg (36 exposure).
But honestly... why not just save a few boxes of Tri-X for the future generations rather than the tatoo. Might be better for you to celebrate turning 18 by getting drunk and (if you live in Hawaii) getting lei'd.

When my daughter was of tatooable age, I pleaded with her: pierce anything you want, drink even Miller Lite, I said, but don't tatoo. Tats don't heal; holes do, and you can always go to detox. Your kids won't be interested in your tats when you grow up, because by that time, the tatoo will more closely resemble a bruise, they'll be out of fashion, and there'll be wrinkles and hair in it anyway. Old tatoos are not attractive.

Yes, it is a bad idea.

We're all light!
I say: just keep shooting. More pictures, more memories preserved, less pain.

Yeah, that pretty much just talked me out of it.

my autofocus is broken.
Take a picture of Tri-X.

do your job, then let go
How about a GOMZ or LZOS logo instead. Much cooler than a Tri-X box.

When I turned 18, I wanted a tatoo but I decided to wait until I figured out what meant enough to me to be permanent and what would still look good when I'm old. 28 years later, I still haven't found one that will meet both of those requirements. But as soon as I do, I'll get me some ink!

KMZ represent. That'd be a fun logo to have on your body.
Or a Leica dot. Take THAT, collectors!
Maybe when I'm old and dead, someone'll cut it off my body and sell it on eBay as vintage.

lurker.
I have one that I wanted at 18, but it didn't happen till I was 27. Didn't ink any of the other ideas I had, though, which I'm really glad about.

That's a terrible idea.
I'd much rather get an HP5 tattoo.

I am thinking of getting the Canon logo inked on me somewhere inconspicuous. I already have a cat and a tribal design (a work in progress).
In fact, here is the cat.....

My Grandfather was a sailor and had an anchor on his right forearm. As a kid I was very impressed by this but my grampa told me how he liked the tatoo for a couple of years after he got it but hated it ever since.
So I've got no tattoos after eight years in the navy and still don't want them.
And I allways preach to the girls who want one of those tribal tatoos on their backs that they may think it over and try to imagine how cool and sexy it is after it is a) out of fashion and b) not on a 18 but on a 48 year old back.

Tattoos. Sweet idea. Never even crossed my mind.
I'm not the tattooing type, but I'd consider getting something photography related.
OH. . . . . brilliant.. . . . I've got it.
Simple graphic of a lens architecture!
I'd get the nice symmetrical super angulon sort - the Bronica RF645's 45mm.
100mm maybe.
Just a simple lineart tattoo.
then, when I'm wrinkly like the avatar, I can enjoy fond memories via skin exploration. Wrinkles will make for a more humorous experience too.
