I've been using Costco for the last month of my trip back in time with film. That is their develpment and scanning. They do give me some acceptably high resolution scanning. Nothing like my Nikon film scanner, but up there in the 4 mg JPG files per image. Pretty usable, really.

This week I tried Walmart. They are about a half a dollar cheaper, but files are about a meg and a half. Pretty plastic looking and the two rolls so far have been very over exposed and I know the negatives were fine, since I scanned a few with my Nikon. The girls at Walmart are very helpful, though. They can't change the machine from default, though. You are stuck with their low resolution stuff.

Anybody found a Walmart with folks who can change the default settings. I'd be curious if you have found some who can give you the best the machine can do.

I tried and tried. Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Sam's Club. Everybody but Costco. As I recall, Costco uses a Noritsu system and everybody else uses Fuji. Maybe that's the difference. I gave up trying to get the machines changed-the stores don't want the film in the machine longer than neccessary. I resigned myself to finding a store that didn't ruin the film. That's as good as it gets. I also went back to DIY B&W developing and bought an Epson scanner. I haven't had any color film developed in a year. I used a pro lab for 10 rolls then. The good news is that my grandkids are coming back in June. Time for another 10 roll order at the pro lab. I hope they are still in business.
