Tripod Question

My friend has a mint condition Mohawk "Hi-Boy" Professional MTR-8500 tripod. It is old, but barely used. The only problem is: the three adjustments knobs on the pan/tilt head are missing, and the tripod is no longer sold or supported. I was wondering if it's possible to find replacement knobs for it (maybe some other brand will fit?). If not, I also wonder if the entire head can be replaced ? How can one tell if a head can be removed? Just from looking at it, it doesn't seem possible to me

It seems a shame to waste a perfectly good tripod because of the missing parts.
