Is the 45A too small? It might have a 1/4-20 to 3/8 adapter on it. You just need to remove the adapter from the 45A with a screwdriver. If the problem is the other way around, you might need an adapter, they are available for some sizes.

Is there on the base a single threaded screwhole?
There are two threads that are common: small cameras have a 1/4inch (approx 6mm) US coarse thread, similar to but not exactly identical to 1/4inch British Whitworth. Larger cameras tend to have a US 3/8inch coarse thread. Often people use a threaded reducer on these larger cameras in order to mount plates etc. such as

RRS is another maker of plates and quick release clamps to mount on tripod heads.
Some flat bed cameras have two threaded holes so that a plate with two screws can be fitted. This avoids the problem of the plate turning and so becoming loose. See for example:

The standard thread on the top of most tripods is the US 3/8inch male thread. Usually people mount a ball head or pan & tilt head on the tripod.

It seems the rise on the smaller thread on my current ball-head is not fitting and also its too small and the bigger thread is too big to be possible to fit. I must find a mean of measure it. Something strange here, might be changed by previous owner. Looks like it can be opened but i do not have a wide enough screwdriver at home to open it.
ADD:
I got it opened and the thread seems badly damaged, must have got some real force on it. Must therefore get another thread adapter for it. Thanks for the help about my problem.
