OK, I think I've got it figured out.
This is with my new G1. Using AF is as I thought it would be. Very easy. This shot, held the focus on the garage door and re-composed with the flower. Works just fine.

...and this one is with focus on flower (f2) and re-composed.

I know, it was for purposes of testing the autofocus. Some here were complaining that they have trouble controlling where the focus is. That's all.
