TTArtisan 50mm / f0.95

got my lens today, looks nice, supposed to be pre-calibrated, so we'll see, will shoot a roll of film (my M9 is out for calibration).

Initial findings:
- finder blockage isn't that bad
- feels hefty
- slightly wider and a bit longer then the 75/1.25
- the lens cap is kinda of a weird design, both clips on, and allows for screwing, takes fiddling to put it on
- they should have used the lens cap design from the 75/1.25 (that lens cap is amazing, alone reason to buy that lens)
- nice clicked feeling of the half stops aperture ring
- you do not want to have big fingers to unmount the lens from a M camera 🙂

One more curiosity: Does your copy have an unfinished brass lens flange, or is it chrome plated (as you would normally see)?

This lens definitely has my interest!

But one issue seems clear: If you mounted a screw-in 'vented' shade to it the RF patch could potentially get blocked out altogether.

Technically, I’m not into hulks on M. I’d rather buy 50-M 2.8, instead of this pickle barrel, which makes M no different from SLRs.

I agree with this, I prefer my small 50mm Summicron. Even my Voigtlander 28mm f/2 Ultron lens is too big. I really like my IIIf w/Collapsible Summicron, as it is so small.

Having said that, I'm looking at this lens, as a special purpose lens, for low-light photography.

I sold 28 1.9 ASPH LTM because it was too big in VF 🙂.
And realized why LTM lenses are better to be small. All of my non collapsible LTM fifties are blocking RF patch, if with hood. Even Jupiter-12 with wide hood on it is blocking IIIc RF.

But it will be nice to see more pictures from this TTA lens in this thread. 🙂

.

Just received mine today. Mine has an unfinished brass flange.

My initial thoughts:
-Its a lot easier to focus with than the 7a 75mm f1.25.
-Weight is more substantial than the 7a 75mm
-Sharp wide open
-Focusing is a bit too dampened/stiff out of the box

Ill do a comparisons with some other 50's when I have some time. (7a1.1, luxasph, canonltm1.2)

Just got it back from calibration, it's spot on now.

jpeg straight out of leica m240, white balance set to cloudy. shot on f0.95

The color rendering is interesting, the car is more blue then grey, it's completely grey here.
