tumblr blogging anyone ?

Tumblr is a great springboard for automatically sharing with other platforms. I have Tumblr configured to auto-share to Twitter, as an example, for my friends and followers who use that service.

I use it in a gallery format that helps bring some clarity to the noise...

I'm thinking of using Instagram to self-publish on a daily basis.

I already have a web site, so the structure/format of Tumblr seems a tad redundant.

Is there a flaw/problem with Instagram compared to Tumblr?

Yeah, sort of. Instagram is for everyone, really. People are constantly scrolling through Instagram, bypassing all sorts of photos. It's just very quick. It is on a mobile device, after all. Tumblr is an actual blogging website, so there's more creative and artistic people looking for other creative and artistic people. Plus it's an actual website, so there's a level of professionalism and more creativity if you please. Two very different websites/apps. But, Instagram is still a great platform to share photos to people who may have never seen them otherwise.

You have to like the square format.:D
Not necessarily. There are plenty of apps that let you format a full frame picture into Instagram. And, it's easy. However, your Instagram looks very nice with the square format!

thank you for this useful summary

It's free. High level of control. Audience traffic.

I'm thinking of moving all my stuff there now that I no longer have a smugmug.

After thinking about this thread I've decided upon a three-fold approach.

I plan to use Twitter and Instagram to display images and display a link to a Tumbler account. Of course the Instagram image will be a 1:1 aspect ratio version. It doesn't seem like triple the work to triple the exposure.

I'm not terrible active on social media. But I like tumblr for a few reasons. It's fairly uncluttered. There is quite a large presence of inspiring work and artists (not just photographers) to follow. The tagging works well for searching and for organising ones posts.
I post images made with my leica m6 (mostly black and white) and my Mamiya 7 (mostly color).
