Willy Ronis has done the trick as well, I have seen this foto of him, made in 1955, while he uses a couple of Foca cameras which are bundled together and shoot simultaneously - one in B&W and the other in colour with Kodachrome:

Without knowing the existence of the dual LTM combo I crafted this device in 1987 to secure my M6 and my M4-P together.
After a 6 week trip in the USA I just got tired of the 2 cameras banging against one another so I invented this (all hand made, no milling machine was available to me at that time):

I would put the two cameras side-by-side on a simple plate. I think it would be easier to use.

Puttees were often worn by German mountain troops, as well as by Rumanians, Italians and Hungarians on the Axis side.

My inclination is to think that this might date from the Spanish Civil War: Broomhandle Mausers were very uncommon in WW2 because they are too big and complicated to be a practical battlefield weapon. They did show up in some German police and SS units which were outside the German Army supply chain but these weren't the kind of units which would normally have a military photographer in tow. I'd also suggest that carrying a broomhandle Mauser down a boot like that is a good way to make sure it doesn't function when you need it and/or significantly increases the owner's opportunity to shoot part of his own foot off!

Interesting picture though.
