Two problems with M7 (rangefinder, flare)

I have bought used M7 (0.58) couple of weeks ego I like it alot! I love the build, the feeling, anyway... the problem is with focus or rangefinder, when I set lens on infinity rangefinder is off, even if I focus on the moon 😀 I have same focusing problems on Zeiss Ikon, How can I fix this? another problem is flare, it flares alot much more than Zeiss ikon, serial number is 2786**** aslo were can I fix this?

Hi Nachkebia, from what I've seen on other threads, you can help the flare problem by having your finder changed with the newer MP finder. I believe it costs $200-300 at DAG. I'm sure you could get the alignment fixed at the same time for little additional cost.

London! That what I want! I am going in London for two weeks end of the month, it would be great if I could repair them! You think two weeks would be enough for zeiss ikon and M7? I mean one by one, I don`t want to be without camera 😀

That kind of sucks for a cam at this price though.

I really do not understand why is that on the Leicas. You buy a $2500 cam and then you need to spend $200 to have a usable finder?!

A few months ago I was seriously thinking of buying an M6 and then I handled one at a shop... honnestly, I was not impressed that much. Nice cam for sure, pretty quiet (even though not as much as I was expecting) but not at that price; I prefer my R. Lighter, faster loading, no flare (I found the RF on the M6 almost unusable in comparison) and I can buy 5 of them for one used M6.

Anyway, good luck with your M7, looks like a sweet cam though.

Well, I bought a used one and seller was claiming he bought new camera end of 2005 so I thought it would be flare free, but unfortunatly I have to spend more money on it!!! 😡 😡 😡 as for SLR ( R ) I prefer Nikon, I have held R8 and did not like it, at all 🙂

Robert White seems to have a good reputation in London. I've got no affiliation with any of these folks, by the way.

rool, I empathize with your sentiment, but then it seems Leica does as well -- the flare problem was fixed a few years ago (I believe with the introduction of the MP). Enjoy your Bessa -- I like what Cosina's been doing lately.

I meant Bessa R, not Leica R. Not sure it was understood. I'm talking RF here, I'm almost useless with an SLR in my hands.

as for bessa R, I own zeiss ikon and it has same problems with infinity ilignment! 😀

Also, I'm not sure what framelines you've got in your M7, but while you have it serviced you could also get the 75mm removed. I really like the Ikon's set of framelines.

I know, it's a beautiful cam. I just think that Leica are really overpriced as compared to Voigtlanders and for what I do (street), my Bessa's fine.

But of course, I'll shoot an M7 if I could.

Hey! what's all that whining behind my back, eh? 🙂 But seriously, I asked you to let me know if all was ok with the M7 (I am the seller in this case) only to hear about it in this thread, c'mon Vlad, let's be adults here.

There were no problems with the rf alignment at all when I shipped the M7 to you on Nov 20. I will be more than happy to take it back for a full refund, minus shipping, just TALK to me directly. But do it today, I do not want to extend the "review" period for another 2 weeks.

I did not get you, but relax I have no regrets whatsoever, I wanted black M7 with 0.58 and I bought it, it might have problems but I am up to fixing them, I am not mad at you 😀 more interesting is who and how and were fixes it 🙂 removing 75 frames lines is also very interesting 🙂 also the dast in the rangefinder tab 😀
