I agree with jvr and dnp. The shutter noise on the M8 is awful. But the end results are great!
I am now saving for more IR filters. The difference is extraordinary.
Does anyone know when (or if) Leica will give us a firmware upgrade to improve the auto white balance?

What a wonderful little camera this thing is - it's so solid and the pictures are wonderful. Sadly, I'm returning it on Monday. My MP will suffice and I just absolutely need the quieter shutter for the work I'm doing now.
This is no slam on the M8 at all - I'll miss the little guy
Back to scanning those slides!

What work is that? Possibly consider 1) a quiet camera for when shutter noise would wreck your chances of getting the shots you want; and 2) an M8 for all the lovely reasons that many perfer this camera.dnp said:I just absolutely need the quieter shutter for the work I'm doing now.

Hi Martin,
Weddings at the moment, mainly it's in-church that the problems occur with sound - also, I shoot candid moments beforehand at the home and various intimate places. For this work, I've gone back to film or a blimp.
Also, for street stuff (fun, whenever I can) it's noticable too. On the train I tried snapping discreetly but it called attention.
I'll figure it out - and the M9 will no doubt improve this even more!

Alexander I do like your shots here! More what I would hope and expect from an M8. And no lack of character...atufte1@mac.com said:I really love this shots, and i think this kind of shooting makes the M8 shine, i think the M8 it's way better suited for B&W work than at least any other Dslr/Drf i have ever tried, and belive me, i have worked with the most of them, and let's just say i'm done looking for what i need
Here are some more M8 shot's with no brick walls or test charts

Happy New Year
I had not before heard complaints of M8 shutter noise, so this is interesting. Is there another camera that sounds similar, or comparably loud? Hexar RF? M7? FWIW, the Fuji GW670II has a clunk despite the leaf shutter, and the little GS645S sports a louder Clack, so not all RFs are sneaky quiet...
