U.S. shoppers' orders canceled as world shuts down some American-bound shipments

It is not political to acknowledge and cite the cause of the tariffs. It is plain, black and white fact, acknowledged by all political parties: Trump enacted them himself. It is also a fact that the U.S. government has shifted away from diversity, equity and inclusion programs and conflict of interest restrictions to the president. It is another fact that scientifically proven vaccine programs which have stood the test of time in preventing morbidity and death from disease are at risk to end due to promulgation of misinformation and termination of grants and funding of key health programs. These are all facts, not opinions, not politics.

Whether you like these changes or not, that is political. But they impact how and where we spend our money on camera gear, and for many others, whether they will be able to even do photography and other creative pursuits.

CEO's are not a part of government, are not directly paid by taxpayers nor do they run for election in a political party. What you pose as a comparison is apples and oranges and suggest that as they are both fruit they are the same. They are not the same.

This thing is already spiraling out of control. This is where I get off the train. Ciao.

I genuinely understand and respect your wish to keep the politics out of this thread, but I think we'll just have to agree to disagree about that.

We can all express varying opinions, yet still remain civil and respectful. Pax. 😎

Oh well. Look at that. Hyundai employees at new American factory taken hostage by the government. It's not safe to move production to the U.S.
They looked like they were there to supervise the construction project. Placing them in chains, wrists and ankles seems excessive and should go very far in diplomatic relations. I traveled all the time overseas for work, and work has a broad definition. These people probably didn’t give it much thought and just hopped on a plane. I have entered India numerous times on a tourist visa but conducted company business. Finally I got a multiple entry business visa really out of convenience because I was there practically monthly.

I'm one of the least political people around. But we're in deep shit here, folks. And the captain is in a gold spangled speedboat causing a big wake that's heading for our polite white outfits and pearly white teeth. It's not politics when you're about to eat a mouthful of feces.

Too many people are willing to eat the feces and stay silent.

Pardon my anger. But maybe more people should get angry about...well, you know.

I've seen the same discussions in many groups. A lot of people will complain about the symptoms, then stick their heads in the sand when the causes are discussed. Costs are going up, and they're going to keep going up. We all know why and we all know who's doing it, and we all know who is not holding him accountable for it, and we all know we're going to be paying out the nose for it. But some will maintain it's not so, or worse, justifiable.

The prescient words of Rufus T. Firefly come to mind.

"The country's taxes must be fixed
And I know what to do with it
If you think you're paying too much now
Just wait till I get through with it"

Yeah, well I tried that and my post was deleted.

RE the post assigning responsibility to Mr. Trump. That could be taken as a political statement, but it was also an accurate statement of the facts. As former senator Daniel Patrick Motnyihan said, You are entitled to your option. But your are not entitled to your own facts.
With all respect to the poster cited above, with whom I actually agree, it has to be said that the original post was a bit of a blunt instrument, adding little to a very interesting thread. I feel that the immediate reaction was not an attempt to stifle informed political discussion, but was instead trying to avoid a low level slanging match developing; a quick look at feacebook shows how quickly this can happen. Happily we are a more enlightened bunch who can discuss politics like gentlefolk and only get nasty when arguing about cameras.

Agree. As originally derived from the Greek word Polis (Politeia is derived from polis (πόλις), referring to a city-state and its inhabitants), anything related to government would be considered political and could also be factual, as is the tariff policy currently in effect, or simply referring to elections and foreign or domestic policy.

But "political" has other connotations in contemporary (and past) usage, referring to criticisms expressed by individuals about governments, parts of government, or other individuals, factual or not. It can be civilized or nasty. We don't like nasty.
