Has anyone checked out uber.com, one of the new advertisers here? I just registered to get in the Leica drawing. Seems like just another stupid social networking site. Or am I missing something?

i registered because i though it might not be so bad, but it was such a pain to use that i emailed the admins to close my account. not sure if they did or not, the user interface was terrible,

Yep, I'm just waiting for the camera, so if the rest of you could drop out of uber this week, I'd really appreciate it.

My anti-spam filter works perfectly. I haven't heard a peep out of Uber or their members since joining. Of course, that probably means I won't hear if I win the M7. Would one of you guys please tell me?

Did you know that if Myspace was a country, it would be the 11th largest country in the world? Great marketing tool.. not such a stupid social website now is it?

well I would agree that it's something beyond your generation, so it's okay. no offense taken. However, the business aspect of it can not be undermined.

I avoided the whole myspace craze, but have been giving uber a bash - it's much better suited to photographers than myspace. It's got it's fair share of problems (bugs especially), but there are a large number of people on it with some really great photos, so I've been putting more effort than usual into it.
I've been getting a lot of enjoyment this last week or two out of browsing through and seeing some terrific work from a whole range of people. It's a nice positive encouragement to get out there and put some effort into my own photography! You can see some great works from people listed under my "friends" on my uber page - check out some of those guys, they're very impressive. You can see 'em on my profile (yes shameless plug for my own page!) at http://www.uber.com/papasnap
I'm a big fan of RFF, but it's good to moderate it's influence on me (I went about a year without touching my nikon DSLR! even when I would run out of film!), so it's nice to engage in different communities of photographers as well.
....especially coz I have a strict financial plan for myself at the moment and every visit to RFF is a massive struggle to stick to my plan and wait till early next year for that zeiss ikon with 35mm nokton! Then I'll blow a fortune shooting half a dozen rolls of Provia 400X every weekend! ah I can see it now
cheers!

I Shoot Film
One question: does anybody have an idea about how submitting one's picture to the Uber/Chris Weeks contest? I wonder because I couldn't find the pictures submitted/selected; I can't figure out how to submit pictures.

Thanks Erik. So the pictures of your gallery are automatically selected for the contest; you don't choose one?

ErikFive said:Theres no contest. You actually need to ad M7 sweepstakes and Chris Weeks as a friend to be apart of the contest when I think about it. They just pick a lucky winner if im not mistaken. Just go into my uber page www.uber.com/erikfive and then go to friends. You will find both Chris Weeks and the M7 there. Just ad them as friends.
This really confuses me. How do you ADD friends? I only see the abiltiy to INVITE friends. But then how in the world did I get 7 friends already since I never received any invitations let alone accept any? So how did they get added to my friend's list? (Besides the fact that I do not even know who these people are.)
