Amazing how they managed a 1:1 viewfinder! There has to be some jiggery pokery in that.

Stop being daft. 1:1 viewfinder relative to the image captured by the sensor. They made a very precise, one could say "pro-level" APS-C camera. They should. The format has many adherents, and at least some of them should be able to have a true pro body with an honest-to-God 100% viewfinder. Seems like a fine enough product for Canon.

But this sensor won't, in any way, be in the m9.

The sensor has a crop factor of 1.6 like the other Canon APS-C cameras before. I don't think it would be a progress going from 1.3 (M8) to 1.6

judging by the high iso pics from the 7D, we cannot be impressed. It is disappointing, rather, Canon's typical overprocessed high iso's is coming back. It's a shame when we see what the 5D MkI and MkII can do (their iso 1600 just looks like a iso 100 shot)...and what obviously the 7D or 50D can't do. :-((

I am absolutely certain that 'Leica will not use a Japanese sensor'. Leica is a German company and cannot use patents paid for my Japanese tax payers. It is no secret that Leica cooperates with Kodak on sensors. It is an official fact. Further: Leica needs a sensor with special properties that are not needed in a D-SLR camera. However: It remains to be seen, though, if Kodak can make a sensor for Leica that is competetive.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but why do the Japanese tax payers support the camera industry, and if they do, is it the same with the car industry as there are small specialist European car makers using Japanese engines.

I don't remember the last time (or any time) that Canon allowed their sensors to be used in any other branded camera other than their own. Nikon, I believe, have done so; but not, to the best of my knowledge, Canon.

Leica will use, as Olsen said, a Kodak sensor - that's what they used in the M8 - basically the same sensor (including all the noise at "high" ISO's) that was in the Kodak 14n eons ago.

That wasn't my question, I was asking why the Japanese camera industry differs from it's car industry in not supplying hardware outside of Japan, is it not possible that the reason they haven't supplied a manufacturer of 35mm size cameras, outside of Japan, is there's only the one who would have such a need, namely Leica. Honda never supplied engines to any manufacturer outside of Japan, and then they did. I'm sure it is unlikely, but why are you so sure it's impossible?
