focus free
Hi everybody! I'm stoked to find a for-real Yashica rangefinder forum! And like most introductions, mine has a tale of woe and confusion.
I've been fiddling with the focusing ring on the lens barrel. I figured it'd be fun to see what is behind it. That went nowhere and I discovered that I'd put it out of adjustment: the rangefinder appeared to focus past infinity. I re-adjusted it until it seemed to focus correctly on an object .8 meters away and to converge on infinity but not past.
My question is: what have I done??? does this kind of mucking around also throw the rangefinder off? Do I need to do the Oleson/Feuerbacher infinity thing to get it back to normal?
A second question has to do with why I was reconnoitering in the first place: the lens barrel is a tiny bit loose. Having looked over Matt Denton's site and a couple others, I'm confident I can get in there and ruin more stuff
but can I access the means to get rid of the wobble? Thanks in advance! Now I'm back to the archives.

Perhaps Yashica-guy might be of some help. If you haven't done so yet, check his site at http://www.yashica-guy.com/

Hi,
I have a yashica gsn with similar probem. Someone has mucked with focussing ring and it does not go to 0.8m easily. It kind of sticks and feels like a mechanical part slipping over another if i try to take it to 0.8m. That is also obvious from the screw on focussing ring on 0.8m side. It has really been abused and does not have a proper notch for me to put screw driver on.
well, the consequence of all this is that the rangefinder does not focus at infinity with all its adjustment. I can rotate the adjustment screw through all its travel motion but it never focusses at infinity (with lens set at infinity)
Any suggestions on how to deal with the focussing ring especially given the condition of screw.
thanks
Amit

Hi Greyhoundman,
I did manage to repair the yashica. just loosened the ring and adjusted it so that infinity and 0.8m aligned to the mark. Then went about adjusting the rangefinder. This time the correction using the rangefinder adjustment screw managed to align at infinity
thanks to all who rlplied. Thats one down and few more to go. Does anyone know how to adjust minolta 7s rangefinder? it goes beyond infinity
