Ultrafine Xtreme Black & White Film ISO 400

Did you use a filter for this one? The sky looks pretty dark.
I have used a red filter with this film a couple of times and did not notice any difference.

I didn't use a filter on this one, just set the black point in post using the curves adjustment.

But... this film is sensitive to red filtration. In my trichromy experiments, you can see the effects of different filters. For example, here are three black and white frames, as shot through the different color filters. Tiffen #25 Red, #58 Green, and #47 Blue, respectively, from left to right.

This is an example of when I used a red filter. Was expecting the blues to be way darker.

Hm, I don't what to say... perhaps the skies were not as blue as they appeared, or maybe the filtration of your particular red filter didn't block out as much blue as expected? Did you meter TTL, or calculate the filter factor apart from what your meter was telling you?

Anyway, here's another example that has some deep blues. I think I specifically chose the box of the new Ektachrome because I wanted to see how trichromy might render blue tones. I made a collage of the original black and white frames, as shot through the different color filters, plus one unfiltered shot. Top row, left to right: Tiffen #25 Red, #58 Green. Bottom row, left to right: Tiffen #47 Blue, no filter. You can see in the upper left, red filtered image that the blue tones rendered quite dark.

Anyone else noticed that Ultrafine is out of stock everywhere, even on their website? I wonder if they’re factory is shut down due to Covid or something. Anyone heard anything??

It is indeed COVID related, see this discussion on Flickr:

Many believe this to be a Harman/Ilford product, so if you want to speculate, it might be related to the temporary shutdown of their manufacturing facilities. However, they are now back in production.
